  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Red 4k Projector! [no projector or monitor announcements at NAB]

Call me an idiot but... why do I want to use optical storage again?

I thought we were done with that. And if I'm a theater it seems like a risky medium to project from.

If Red develops a projector I would hope that RED Ray isn't the primary content delivery method. :D

There are several 4K (3840 to be precise) displays on the market.
mitsubishi has a nice one at ~30K.

You could of course opt for the CF card as a secure medium for theatrical projection...

Projector vendors will follow RED 5/4/3K ....

Don't worry. Sony has a 4K projector but no at least 2K camera ?

Relax a bit.

STEW.
WOW

Wow this is a great concept. Studios would be happy.

I am also wondering if Red Ray can apply the metadata matrix to the footage on the cards for output. It tickles me pink to think I can take a card from camera, put it in the Red Ray and watch what i just shot in 4k with the same image i tweaked in my monitor path.

I also fail to see why optical discs, but that codec is crazy...

When 4K delivery goes mainstream I don't see why cinemas just couldn't download that 6-10 Mb/s footage right of the studio's server,
get the time limited license based on payment (pay per screening or buy for a period etc.) and that's it.

And for home - I'm guessing that one fruit selling company would also like to see this codec in its "store" or "rentals".

If this codec is so efficient, why keep it only for Red Ray ?

If I'm going to project it would be nice to have something like drobo built in or Cat6 to a real raid 5 somewhere in the back room.

It would be cool if the REDRay had some built in storage. A couple of 8GB CF Cards inside running a raid 1. Insert media. Let it chug away as long as it takes to get a clean read or return an error.

Speaking of displays if anyones interested it the best looking flat panel display at NAB (possible ever) you should go drop by the FED Booth: #SL14710, Hall S-2 and go inside the tent and check out the small prototype. And of course by "best looking" I mean colour gamut.
It makes most other non CRT displays look positively flat and washed out. All the other colourists I spoke to were blown away. But its still 18/24 months away and had a few minor issues, I forgot to ask if its a wider gamut then rec709.
