If it's possible to get good quality stereo squeezed onto a single chip like that - it seems like a great business opportunity for someone to produce high-quality optical rigs. It bypasses the need for the second camera and a mirror rig so it could cost a decent amount and still be cheaper than a 2 camera setup. With a 5k chip you'd get pretty decent HD stereo.
