If this is the right place to ask this... I just bought a Battle Tested 18 to 85 Red Pro Zoom. It's a nice lens. And I've read a couple of places that you see a little vignette of the hood. Well, I see now that it's true.

But, it looks like to me that if small sections of the "hood" were removed, this wouldn't happen. I also assume that this lens has the shortest available hood.

So, has anyone taken this off or machined out the four offending corners of the hood?

This is not something I'd do myself unless you're willing to Dremel a notch out of the front element. Either that or at least have a trained lens tech take the hood off before you attempt surgery. I still don't think it's worth it, if your shooting 16:9 just shoot 4K if you're shooting 5K widescreen then it doesn't vignette.

Thanks for the reply Evin!

Yes, I'd totally have a lens tech do it. All of my old Canon glass arrived with corners missing from the factory so I figured why not. Seems an easy enough fix.

And since I read that no one in Cine Land adds a protective front cover to their Cine Glass the way we did with our still lenses, I wondered why there was even a hood on this beast! :D
