I would just like to test the waters to see if there are any Red Ones or Scarlets available for rent in East Africa (specifically in Uganda)?

Looking to do a small indie flick; but unfortunately with limited resources. The film would be 80% in one large indoor location, the other 20% in a limited number of other locations. Schedule would be 2 weeks. Preferably I'd be looking at trying to get a Camera with its Owner/Operator to DP.

I just want to check the prices before I have to go down the old DSLR route....

hi Solomon, I'm based in Kenya and own and shoot with Red Scarlet, Uganda is just next door. What's your flick about? Where are you? It's nearly midnight here, you can write to me at joanpoggio at gmail dot com. cheers

Hi Joan,

Thanks for replying. Its a low budget horror flick; it had originally been scripted as a short - but the script is currently being expanded out to a feature length movie.

The movie would kind of be a mixture of supernatural and psychological horror, plus a little of the slasher genre thrown in for good measure (though not much and a little more high-brow we hope). We are basing the story around a local myth that is quite prevalent (and generally believed) here in Uganda. Most of the story takes place in a derelict police station (so if you think of the original 'Assault on Precinct 13' crossed with a horror movie you will get the idea). We already have this location sourced (its a really good building full of character).

We are in early pre-production at the moment; we would be aiming to film mid 2013. Originally it was planned to film with equipment available to us (we already have basic video & audio equipment), and to rent grip & lighting for the duration of the shoot. We have a pro audio guy with his own equipment who has come on board (he has a good cv with some international films; he is interested in doing this one because he likes the subject). However the video equipment we are using is essentially DSLR's and a choice of either standard Canon Lenses, or vintage Nikkor lenses.

So this is really just an exercise to see what would be the added costs of renting a more professional camera like the Scarlet or R1 (plus an operator, plus maybe his own lenses) so that we can make an informed decision about whether to try to raise the budget or not.

I will email you later about your rental costs.

Thanks!

Hi Joan,

I tried emailing you a few days back; not sure if you received the message?

Please forward your rental rates for the Scarlet (plus operator preferably) to me by way of PM, otherwise please email me at: info (at) guerrillafilms (dot) co (dot) ug

Thanks!
