Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately, there are some R3D files that we need to recover from an external 4TB hard drive that was erased and reformatted recently. No other data has been placed on the drive and it hasn't been zeroed out, so I know the old data can be recovered. I am using a Mac, by the way.

I'm wondering what the best way is to do this? I tried Red Undead (but according to my knowledge, that only works for Red drives and cards). I've also been trying Disk Doctors Mac Data Recovery (http://www.diskdoctors.net/mac-data-recovery/software.html). It is able to restore jpeg files and other simple documents, but I don't think it understands how to read R3D files. I can, however, add a New File Type for it to search for, but I need to know the "Signature in Hex" and the "Offset of Signature in File" for an R3D file.

Does anyone know this or any other solutions?

Thanks in advance!

I did. But I may not have used it to its full potential... I go to 'R3D File Recovery', set it all up there, and attempt to 'Recover R3D Files.' But it almost instantly says "Scan Finished." I assume it only scans real quickly and doesn't do an in-depth search? It's only the demo version too... Any ideas?

Have you tried RED UNDEAD... ?? donwload here. http://www.red.com/support

pretty sure mark p from offhollwood said it worked a couple months ago. cant find his post. but i remember they erased drives and recovered footy.

good luck!

Get Data Rescue! It saved my life.

I had a similar problem with a 4TB Lacie RAID 5 that wouldn't mount a few months ago. I used Data Rescue 2 (Now Data Rescue 3) and it was able to recover all the files and directories intact. All the R3D files, file structures and proxies were rescued in-tact.

My drive wasn't reformatted but there shouldn't be a difference as long as the drive wasn't zero'd out.

A friend of mine recovered a G-Drive that failed on me. Not sure which programme he used but it seems to have discovered most of my R3D files....However when I try to open them in REDCINE X it shows them but with an OFFLINE label. Do I need to change some of their 'insides' to get them to open again!?
Cheers
Pete
