  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Anyone else seen this on their Scarlets?
Filming in 4Kws, 36fps, shutter 180degr, 1:7redcode, pretty standard. Recording just stopped in the middle of a couple of takes. This has never happened to me on my Red before.

It was the first time I hade someone fly a UAV close to me filming. Could this be RFinterference?

Thx for inputs. Thommes

PS. It was minus 2 degrees Celsius ... no moist in the air. ... standard shooting conditons

No error message?

Do you lose the whole clip. or just the end?

Just the end of the clip, no error message.

I did save a log to media, and sent it in for an eval. Lets see what they come up with.

Same thing started happening to me on set not to long ago! Next day it was fine but I was pretty worried.

My guess would be either the battery or REDMag connection. How were you powering the camera?

You could have a problem with the connection between the SSD module and the brain. Take your SSD module off, check the contacts to make sure they are clean and undamaged, reseat the module.

The instructions for this procedure are in the RED DSMC Media Operation Guide starting on page 31: https://www.red.com/downloads

Other than that, can you try another REDMag?

Hope it helps, Jeff

Thank you very much for that Jeff, that was real input right there. Much appreciated.
Powered by a couple of redvolts, as I was just out testing with a friend. They never got under 20% remaining power.
Will give your advice a go.

Glad to help :) Assuming you're using the sidehandle, make sure that's fully seated and the contacts look good as well.

I did as you said ... removed, inspected, re-attached, checked, formatted ... no dirt, no signs of wear, this camera has been kept in pristine state and conditions. I will probably not see these problems for a while (I hope).

hm, this happened on a test shoot and it was the first time in a long long time that I had detached and re-attached the side handle. No sign of wear or misfuntioning pins in the SH though. Lets see, maybe the LOG file can be interpreted at Red-quarters to say something.

That may be a clue, the sidehandle can feel fully seated but in reality still be lose. Try squeezing the SH against the brain and turning the tightening screw. If you didn't squeeze the two together while you tightened it before it will turn a couple more times.

i think that is close to the answer, I will check this systematically from now on. I have no answer from RED to my log file, but I do not worry. This will sort itself out fine I think. Thank you for the input. I love this place, a tip here, a LUT there, some good pro advice ... on and on, this is a good place to be!
