  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recording Sound Online from I/O Module?

You do essentially have two on-board XLR sockets - electrically they're identical - they're just put through mini-jacks because there's nowhere near enough space for XLR sockets. You'll just need a cable with an XLR connector at one end and a mini-jack at the other.

People are constantly confusing the mini-jacks with unbalanced, crappy audio that goes through a cheapo DAC in a camcorder. They are not anything like this.

XLR to mini-jack... hm... I've been looking for cables like these but people kept telling me they cannot connect like that because of the wireing. I had just XLR to 6.35 Jack. If that is possible all problems solved.

I still want to have an onboard XLR input option for run and gun documentary stuff.

I know for some stuff getting a sound guy is a must.

However for a lot of the work that I have now, synced sound lets me move quickly and more efficiently.

i'm right there with you. i need the flexibility for run and gun, i hire an audio guy when necessary but in general i don't have the option.

my current rig runs with a cable that is XLR to a mini jack that is balanced and feeds phantom power to my mic. My sound guy wired it up for me in only a few minutes, and I have considerably less noise than my previous cable.

Ill be asking him for another pair, only a few inches long rather than the 25ft cable for this one

Cool! I'll insist for one too!
