Recording sound on the Hard Drive

How many of us are recording sound on the Red Hard Drive?
Does it work, as far as post, having the sound files on it?
So far we have been recording sound with double system like in the "old movies days". Having my Red in the upgrade program where they are changing the sound board, I question myself if the upgrade worth it (yes I know that they also change the CF module to 16GB, I suspect they are doing it to encourage the 16GB CF cards sale, clean the sensor etc) having the camera in Bucks London for over 3 weeks as they run out of parts.

No problems at all. You should do it and avoid the additional complexities of double sound. If you go line level in you get excellent sound.

for scratch track use only. Double system audio is not like the "old days", it is simply how one should record audio. ...in my opinion.

If you must, as noted, line level will give you best results, using a competent outboard mixer. I've done it myself out of necessity.

What if you have a one person crew, same person running camera and audio in a ENG type setting. Is the hard drive audio straight to camera going to be better than MPEG or regular HDCam PCM audio?? or about the same?? THX
