Recording Kayaker Waterproof Mic Challenge?

Howdy all knowing redusers - its a hair off topic, but we shoot red, and amongst other things are making a piece on whitewater. In some shots, we are shooting red from shore, and mount a 5dmk2 in a surf housing on a kayak to get POV to edit in. So...the trick is, we need to record audio of a kayaker going through rapids.

For the recorder, we could mount a small, lower quality recorder in/on the kayaker, or use a wireless Xmitter/rciever on shore with our normal SD 702T. Small recorder could go in zipolocks, etc - but the real trick is the mic - ideally, there would be a water-happy lapel mic - we need audio of the kayakers breathing, the water sloshing, etc

Ideas for the mic and/or very compact recorder?

Use Counrtyman EMW lavs and Lectrosonics MM400 transmitter and UCR400 receiver.

Cantar recorder is waterproof.

Suggest you rethink what is real in pictures.

Thanks. The EMW beta is super helpful. I am fully aware that much foley, ambient and dialogue audio is not recorded real time in most narrative film and many docos, tv etc - yep. However, for the specific effect we re going for, faking it in is not quite getting the job done, the complexity and layers of sounds occurring in these locations on camera is easier to actually record than it is to recreate in post.

Zaxcom makes a wireless transmitter that has IFB and a built in recorder via SD card also with timecode. http://www.zaxcom.com/transmitters.htm
With the IFB part you could also put a earphone in the kayaker's helmet so you can talk to him as well. I wouldn't put a recorder in the boat too great a possibility of losing it.

I have seen sound guys use condoms to wrap mics in wet conditions and they are thin enough to allow sound waves to come thru. Obviously use the non-lube kind.

The Countryman B6 is also a good waterproof solution when teamed with the Lectro.

Can use a small condenser type inside a condom... have done this a few times now with decent results.
