Is there any way to record 4K 30fps for 8 hours straight uninterupted? Can't stop shooting to swap Red drives.

Please advise,

If you really need 8 hours of 4k I think your best bet would be to use multiple cameras. In theory, it should be possible with an external SATA raid array, but I don't know if Red has made available all the info necessary to hook that up. I haven't heard of anyone doing this with Red as yet. For that matter, I'm not sure you can shoot 8 straight hours of 4k with any other camera, either.

I don't think you can shoot for 8 hours straight 4k, and 30fps. You can do a time lapse at a slower frame rate in 4k... Why do you need 8 straight hours of 4k footage?

Scientific Observation Application. Will end up throwing out 99% of the 8 hours just won't know which 99% till after. Can the connection to the Red Drive be used to connect to an external Raid?

The external connection is just a custom-connectored SATA (with additional pins for power) so in theory, yes. However in practice it's not clear what, if any, special features or requirements are involved with the RED RAID.

I recall someone making a cable that goes from the red drive lemo cable that plugs into the camera and splits out to an esata cable or something like that. If that person has finished such a cable, that could be an option? Testing of course would be necessary. As far as who that person was, I can't be of more use. Sorry. Just remember that someone was doing that.
