Hi,

I know this may be a complete newbie question. But, my video budget i pretty tight, and the mini-mags are not cheap,
so I wonder if anyone knows if there is a way to record video from RED Raven, maybe through HDMI or something straight into the computer through some app or NLE?

Thanks for any advice,
Alex

Nope. My advice: raise money and buy more mags. Be glad you're not having to pay for raw film and processing.

A cheap way to record to computer is via the Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Recorder (supports HD-SDI or HDMI to Thunderbolt). Runs about $140 US. I use them to Webstream from time to time, either straight from camera or from a video switcher, but Blackmagic has decent recording software too.

I think, though, the real joy of shooting Red is to record compressed RAW and really have fun in post.. nothing else quite like it. I don't think there's a way to do that outside of the camera body, right?

Page 9 of the Raven manual.

"RED TETHER, included in REDCINE-X PRO, allows you to record footage from your camera directly to a computer or an external drive. Using tethering bypasses the need to record to an SSD and offload to acomputer later, saving you time. "

Awesome! Great info! Exactly what I was looking and hoping for! Thanks! :thumbup1:

And for Tether, you need Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to the camera. It's recommended that you have the cable directly connected to the computer running the software.

Also good info! Thanks!

Cool! I've never tried that. Does anyone do that for studio work?
