a red is not stopping to record sometimes, like described in
http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10751&highlight=post
and other threads.

i have seen this sometimes on different red ones so far, but this particular DoP is getting it very often.

Has anyone who also had this issue found out what triggers the camera to be stuck in record/post?

Can you please try resetting to defaults and reloading the firmware (15?).

Will advise the DP to do so - its 16, he insisted.

Hi,

Did your back up camera also have a problem?

So far - no. Seems to be an issue of 16 or of the camera.

They were shooting until 1 p.m, then the problem occured multiple times, camera exchanged. Standard procedure.

But i want to understand if its a) a build 16 issue, b) a defective rear record button or c) an issue.

the problem seem to be in the c/f cards.
They are red c/f 8GB lexars.
Using raid disk storage the same camera works, using c/f it sometimes hangs in record.

we will check the issue of these particular c/f cards out on our other reds.

record/post hangs

record/post hangs

We just got our Red camera 2 weeks ago and I've been experiencing the same problem. I just reset the camera (power down then on again). We only have three 8 gb cards for now (still waiting for the Red drive) and I just swap them everytime. I can't even playback the footage from the card so I power down and change card.Another problem is after a reboot I noticed that the camera still will not record and the system menu button doesn't work, only the monitor and sensor can be accessed. After another reboot it starts to work again. Record a few clips and it hangs again, still using Build 15.

the problem is in the cf card reader - for sure. We had that the last month. changed the reader in the camera, everything was fine. !

Record/post stuks

Record/post stuks

I have the same trouble with this. The camera is a Build 15, recording on RED 8Gb CF cards. I´ve made a 4K 2:1, 24P, Redcode 36 project.
I started shooting one short clip that I cut to save memory and stops normally, then I push the back trigger again and the car goes. When it comes back, the display says: POST, 5 drops, Memory 2, the tally was ON and nothing works except Video menu.
I restart, change the CF, format it. And start shooting. The camera comes back showing tally ON, POST, 9 drops, don´t remember how much memory, and I cant stop it!!! I turn it OFF to unmount, I copy the CF to the Mac Book and I found that I have no QT (it was checked on) but I have 4 R3D files that weighted 7.1Gb
Then I mount the camera again in a truck, start shooting... stop... Ok!!! Playback and everything OK. Second shot at 6 fps starts... stop... Ok!!!

Then we go to the crane, same way to mount it, same proyect and the same trouble with the record/post stuck , I´ve tried whith 2K, changeing CF, formating 4 diferent CF cards, power cycling, restoring everything, pushing the side trigger, etc.

The sun cames up and two clips were done.

I´m sad.

We had our camera #1620 sent to Red for repair. I experienced the same problem as yours. They repaired something in the compact flash card reader and when I got the camera back it was functioning perfectly.

I don't think it's the CF cards, the reader or a problematic record button causing the issue - this happened to us half a dozen times on a shoot last week - using drives exclusively (4k, 16:9, RC36, b16). Each time it was a matter of rebooting the camera.

The same camera worked without a hitch for twelve hours straight, two days later.

I used to have this problem too but now I think it is a heat issue.

Just put ice packs on the camera from the beginning of the shoot instead of waiting for it to heat up. Shot 7 hours straight yesterday with no problems at all.
