Hello!

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, but I've had a difficult time finding a solution for this issue.
We'd shot a series of spots on our Epic W in 8K with in-camera 2K ProRes proxies.
Seeing as these files were both saved in the same folder off the mag, now that I go to conform to the R3D's, Resolve sees the .mov in the same folder and links to it, since it's an exact match to the proxy name & extension.

How would I go about doing an extension-specific import in resolve / relinking the .mov's to the R3D's while ignoring the .mov's in the RDC folders?
Also, seeing as the spanned pro res proxies have different file names, how would I go about relinking them both to the R3D (without manually reconnecting)?

Thank you in advance for your help. I'm always amazed by the speed and quality of responses on RedUser.

Cheers,
Chris

Check out FoolClip from the same guy who made FoolControl. That'll solve your second problem. As far as the first problem goes, that depends on what program you are using.

In Resolve there is an option to ignore file extensions when relinking, that should give you the option to choose the R3D's instead right?

I'm having the same question: is there a way to make DaVinci Resolve use in-camera proxies rather than trying to generate its own using Proxies or Optimized media? It seems that Premiere Pro and FCPX both have provisions for this, but the latest Resolve 14 manual says nothing of the sort. It looks like Resolve insists on (re-)doing the work itself.

Best workflow in premiere is.

Start by going in your explorer/finder to your folder with the project media.

Do a search for .mov and make a new folder named Proxy's, put all the .mov'sin that folder so the R3D's are in teir original folder structure but all the proxy's are in the Proxy folder.

Import all the R3D's

Select them all and right click go to proxy

Attatch proxy's and select the first one.

Now Premiere links all the proxy's to the original files. But it makes sure you are editing with the correct dimensions. So when you take a clip that is a proxy clip andyou shot in 8K the timeline will be 8K and the proxy will be scaled to that but without the metadata so when you blow up it translates to the original data. Make sure you select the proxy toggle button. You need to place it yourself in your workspace presets.

When you want to grade just export a XML. And resolve will know to link to the R3D's.

You also can work 180*.

Start by going in your explorer/finder to your folder with the project media.

Do a search for .mov and make a new folder named Proxy's, put all the .mov'sin that folder so the R3D's are in teir original folder structure but all the proxy's are in the Proxy folder.

Import the proxy folder and edit.

When you are done you can select all the clips

right click and go to proxy.

Reconect full resolution media.

OH AND VERY IMPORTANT

Shoot on an UDF formatted magazine so your proress files don't spawn. Otherwise you first need to link them and that can be a pain in the butt.

I hope this helps.

Jaimy, thanks for that, but it does not address the question of what to do in Davinci RESOLVE, and specifically, how to use what the RED camera can do, rather than being forced to re-do it with "optimized media".

Ah you edit in resolve. As far as I know there isn't an option to do that (Yet) Best to email them and ask if they can implement it. Or maybe it's a hidden treasure and they can tell you that. But I will take a look tomorrow. Will check back.
