I'll skip the details, but long story short, our footage has changed drives, now the RedCine projects we created during the shoot can't find any of the files (obviously)- is there a way to "reconnect" the files in RedCine?

We had a colorist on-set and I'd hate to lose all his work.

I'm a newbee to all of this, so sorry if this post (or anything I may post in the next few weeks) has a painfully obvious solution.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, no, there isn't.

Renaming drive letters is fairly straightforward. Did you just move the entire path from one drive to another?

Lucas,

Basically when we were dumping the mags we were copying the files on to two drives (just to be safe). One of the drives was formatted for PC, one for Mac. We did the color correction on the drive formatted for PC*. However, we're editing in FCP so we're using the Mac drives, but RedCine won't "connect" the files, so I can't export to start editing...

I think I could take the PC formatted drives, put them in some FW enclosures and open them on the mac (I think...) and export that way... It would be nice to keep the work our colorist has already put in. Any other ideas?

* Like I said I'm new to this...

If you copy the .RSX file for each clip from the PC drive to the Mac drive and fix the file path string (if it needs it) with a text editor, would that do it?

I've had this before, the problem is in the syntax PC and Mac use to describe where the files are, once you get past the drive decriptors the folders stay the same. I have tried to find replace the file locations inside the .rcn but that didn't work as expected :(

You are going to have to transfer your footage from the PC drive to the Mac drive. They both have very different file systems and cannot read eachother without 3rd party software. From there you should be able to do what brenton said. If that doesn't work: kevins@red.com

this is a basic feature that is missing from REDCine which drives me mad.
That and it not remembering the last directory you where in or the last project setting so you have to manually input it as a 4k project.

...as well as RedCine not remembering where you last loaded in a color preset, so each time you want to load, you have to navigate thru the entire directory hierarchy.

I am curious if there is anybody at Red monitoring this forum because I've read 4 different posts now asking for a simple way to relink footage, which is a basic, critical function in all media software. Not all studios use FCP so RedCine is a must tool and if footage is moved it is just not re-linkable. Can somebody PLEASE respond to these requests and can we ask to have this basic function included in the next version of the software? Thank you.

For now, you can try this:

Launch REDCINE with Anders' RESET. > Load all shots. Adjust shot settings.
Open your saved file for your one light settings and apply to appropriate shots.

It may not be ideal, but it works.

our workaround for when drives switch to a new computer is to take the redcine project (which remembers curves etc.) reload mag via import all, place the new clips in stacks above the old ones via the library, and then in the color tab copy and paste from lower to upper stack then back to library to delete offline files

def not ideal but a perfect re-creation of lost work!

Standard practice for me on set is I save a .rcc file for every scene along with a REDCINE Project File for every scene as well. This way, if I have to rename the master folder and lose the connection to my media I can easily load that media back in and quickly apply the .rcc Look to the appropriate scenes quickly. Also, saving the REDCINE project file for each scene allows me to quickly do playback for the Director, Producers, etc at any given point throughout the production.

Has this been resolved yet? Any clean re-linking workflow?
The RedCine conversion takes a long time and I like to leave a couple of computers crunching away at it overnight...
