Hey all,

Purchased a PL mount used a while back and it has been working great! It saw some tough conditions and I wanted to give it a good cleaning as I could hear/feel things caught between the threads, almost a crunching feeling. It was pretty gnarly in there and now she's looking clean and nice. Thing is, I want to make sure it's properly lubricated and moving smoothly for future use. Does anyone have any tried and true lubricant for this? Thanks!

Probably the best optical helical thread grease that you can readily buy is from Japan Hobby Tools. It is designed for lenses, so it should be perfectly fine for a PL mount.

See page 14 on this PDF: http://www.japanhobbytool.com/catalog-e.pdf

Amazon carries a few of the grades, as does B&H.

MicroTools is currently having a sale on the #3000 grade, which is their thickest (but it might be too thick): https://www.micro-tools.com/collections/jht/lubricants .

I will say that I haven't had a need to use any of this myself, yet. I have previously used automotive grade white lithium grease, but that can outgas and/or separate.

Fantastic! Thanks so much. I actually was at a checkout the other day and was able to ask a tech if he wouldn't mind taking a look. Got it greased back up to spec for me on the house!
