Currently I Have a 2012 IMAC that I use CS6 and premiere to edit my 4K footage I shoot on my Red scarlet. I can't play the material more than 1/4 of the quality or it will break up and stutter real bad. I'd like to build a new computer using a 2012 Mac Pro but I don't know what specs are recommended to where I can play Red footage at full quality. I assume need an array can anyone recommend RAM and array specs? What about red rocket? Any info is appreciated.

thanks

Dave

You can find all this information in the RED Workflow/Apple section.

For myself (Scarlet), Ive worked on rMBP, iMac, Mac mini and Mac Pro with or without ROCKET.

Get a ROCKET or a beefed up new Mac Pro :)

I only see the tutorial video's in the red workflow section that deal with how to use Premiere. Am I missing it? When you say you have used it with IMAC were you able to play it at 100% quality? IF so how?

Adobe does work on apple products, as does FCPX, both can play back R3D files natively at 1/4 or 1/2 depending on the system. The new iMac and MBPR can both transcode at a decent rate without a red rocket. You can also work in Resolve with R3D files natively. White balance the clip, change to redlogfilm, and apply one of the Rec709 3D film LUTs (Fuji or Kodak).

My apologies you would have to dig deep to find that kind info.

On an iMac, Premiere is a bit of a pig.

My only experience is with 4GB of RAM iMac i5s at local college (I teach on the side).

On a Mac Pro they are pretty solid with 16GB and a slew of Quadro 4000s and/or ATI 5770.

For me my fave setup is Mac Pro 2012 Dual Quadros and 32GB RAM.
Add SSDs and SAS RAID and Final Cut Pro Ten rocks and of course Premiere Pro/After Effects.

Testing our new Mac Pros sporadically at the moment but no time due to workload.
