Hi

I want to buy 2 monitors for my new Mac Pro setup, and since i'll be working with HD and RED footage a lot, I want to make sure i get a fairly colour accurate setup (though it doesn't have to be up to full grading suite standards)

Budget is an issue, I can spend between £200 and £300 on each one, so the Dreamcolour is out unfortunately!

Can you recommend a good dual monitor setup?

When we added resolve to one of our rooms, I had originally planned to use Apple monitors, but did not like that I had to adapt their mini plug to the DVI in order to use my extender. We ordered DELL U2311H instead, and have been pretty happy with them - especially for the price. There may be better monitors in your price range, but I doubt it at $320 US each.

I use 23" Dell SP2309w model monitors. 2k resolution, a 2 ms response time, etc. Here are some reviews about the monitor when it first came out.

I've used one for over a year now and though I'm not a professional grader, it serves my purpose. Recently purchased another on sale at a very advantageous price of $199. Hope to use it as an on-set monitor, especially if RED enables 2048 x 1152 monitoring.

Hi Greg, thanks for replying. Do you find the 16:9 aspect ratio restricting?

Not at all. It's what I'm used to.

All our rooms have Avid/Adobe/FCP in them - this room also has DaVinci on it. It's a dual-monitor setup on the Mac, (plus plasma, external scope, and glass connected to the decklink card) so I have no shortage of real estate. (I do wish Resolve allowed me to re-arrange the windows.) We almost never work above 1920x1080, so I'm pretty happy with this monitoring configuration. Probably will add the Cubix expansion some time next year- but that's a different thread.

I order this from BH:

Tote Vision 23.6" HD 16:9 RGB/HDMI MONITOR - TOLED2361HD

sight unseen. being drop shipped after being put on backorder. It was $400 and since they make spendy hi-end stuff, I'm thinking the color will be better than the Samsung I'm currently using. But we'll see.
