Recommendations with RED

When it comes with Audio, my knowledge is pretty limited so I wants to ask the community what is a good external recorder that works perfectly with RED.

I want to keep my setup the lighest possible but I do know sometimes you need an external sync wireless transmitter.

Also the sync system can do remote audio start/stop to the external recorder.

Zoom F4 if you want maximum bang for buck.

Sound Devices MixPre3 if you want minimal size.

Should be able to set up a record trigger, but.... I've heard RED doesn't have an external TC output? Which seems like an incredibly dumb oversight for an expensive professional camera. (might need to rely upon record trigger over HDMI instead, in which case the F4 is sadly ruled out but maybe the MixPre3 is still possible if it accepts the RED)


The better approach is to use a timecode box on the RED, I'd recommend an UltraSync ONE. I use them myself:

I love the people at Tentacle as well as their products!

Tentacle Syncs were the top notch choice for a couple of years for any one wanting small and cheap, as they were massive game changers when they came out.

However, last year a host of other brands brought out their options as well.

So now I feel UltraSync ONEs are the best. (I own both of them. First the Tentacles, then later on after they got shipping the UltraSync ONEs as well)
