  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recommendations for removing noise

I shot aerials of the Pentagon at night, and it's fairly dimly lit. I boosted to 2500 ISO and to make it usable, I applied NeatVideo, and it worked great. A major motion picture picked up the shot.

I have not used Re:Vision, so didn't compare the two.

Matt, the best way to do it is to shoot some charts in various lighting conditions and then build some profiles. That way you can categorize the noise, and apply these profiles to future shots. You'll also want to experiment with the advanced settings. Much more control in there and you can start to avoid getting the plastic look you speak of.

Thanks Steve.

I actually do have charts at the head of every shot. How would I go about building profiles? Would it basically be taking the sample from the 18% grey chip or the black chip?

Point taken. We we in a crunch and unfortunately didn't have time to search. We applaud the fact that we get faster results by relying on fellow users for help when needed...Which I believe is even a better FEATURE:-)

With all due respect, there are literally hundreds of threads on this forum asking this exact same question. Search. Its a great feature.

Good answer depending on your video clips.

From my experience:
for compressions higher than 1:8 good option is RCX up to max and Neatvideo spatial + temporal level up to 3 (higher than 3 Neatvideo is extremely slow, I will say unusable)

for compression lower than 1:8 (...1:10...1:12..etc) Neatvideo will make bad artifacts and I am suggesting RCX High + DE:Noise frame Average with threshold + DE:Noise (spatial and temporal)

and in some cases (specially for treetops and scenes like that) I recomend BCC8 Noise reduction, color threshold in that cases can save the whole video)
