Hi all,

Trying to put together a PC based on-set data offload solution for less than $1500. I'm looking for a small form factor PC that I can run RedCineX on. Goal is to be able to download and verify footage, be able to review, and make backups.

I'm not looking to do transcodes on set. So its not a dailies solution. Given all that, does something like this below work?

with maybe an esata adapter

Does anyone have PC laptop recommendations? I don't plan on adding a Red Rocket just yet, but in the future, might do just that.

Thanks in advance for sharing deets on any solution you may have put together.

In short, no. This will choke miserably.

PC-based Laptop recommendation: perhaps a decked-out Alienware M17x

MBP or Mac Air with bootcamp, you can take jobs for either OS then...not a bad deal...

Buy a non-unibody 15" or 17" Macbook Pro. For copy/download/checks you'll be fine. Might run you around 600-800 bucks. Then buy some express card adapter for esata. and a battery ups.

That esata adapter you have in your link will work poorly because most likely its not hot swappable, so you'll have to reboot to change drives.

Thanks all! So if I go with a MBP, do I get R3D manager? Something else? I do want checksum verification. I only care about media management here, no transcodes etc., so trying not to jump up to an Alienware level, which busts my budget most likely (haven't checked it out yet).
