We just recently bought a Red Epic-X package (less than 3 weeks ago) and we were told by our Bomb rep that a credit for the price difference of the new epic brain isn't possible. He told us that he could kick it up to a supervisor, so that's what we're waiting on.

Has anybody had success in a situation like this? Honestly, it seems a little crazy that we'd be unable to recover that difference in the form of a credit back considering the timing of our purchase and the release the dragon, etc.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

Edit: I should also mention that we opted for the Red Armor as well. The total for the order was just under $47,000, which makes the timing of our purchase sting that much more.

I don't see (or understand) the problem. Just upgrade when it's time?

It will take some time for Dragon to land anyway. If you just bought today, there's a lot of people ahead of you. I don't know when they will start selling, but I guess EPIC-M upgrades will come first anyway.

So if you need an EPIC now, there's nothing else too chose anyway.

I have been in this situation before with other companies and have not received any mercy. I ordered a brand new Alienware laptop 6 years ago and the day I received the computer, Alienware emailed me using the address I used when registering to buy the laptop, offering $200 off a new computer. So I called to say "Hey, I just received this computer today and now there is a special, can I get in on that?" and sure enough no dice. I hope for your sake Red will be willing to help you out, but the price was the price when you bought your Epic and it is always a bit risky buying anything so close to NAB. Best of luck.

I've had the same thing happen buying a white macbook to the next day see the new model released cheaper and faster.

We received our Epic package a little under two weeks ago. We couldn't use it for nearly a week due to a backorder of the SSD reader (something we were not informed was backordered until we went through all our packages for hours searching for the missing box).

So we've had use of the camera for a little under a week and were told that the dragon sensor was a ways away. So we bit the bullet and bought the package. We are just a little shocked that considering the high price value of these cameras, that red wouldn't extend the courtesy of a credit or at least put the difference towards the Dragon upgrade in the future.

Something... I don't know, hopefully they will help us out on this. Bad timing on our part? Yes, but I'd think there would be a window for things like this.

Unless I am mistaken, the Dragon would be a ways away for someone buying a RED camera within the last few weeks. There are a lot of upgrades ahead of you before you can get a new Dragon.

Terry is right. It will take quite a few weeks for Red to fulfill the upgrades for all the early adopters and previous Epic-M customers. Remember, Red will only ship new orders after all these people have had the chance to upgrade.

Exactly. Even the upgrades are going to take a lot of time to process through.

If it makes you feel better, we bought one of our Epics just ONE WEEK after the major price increase. No credit there either. Epics are $10,000 cheaper today than they were when we purchased. After a little while of shooting, none of that mattered. It's an incredible system and one hell of a professional tool. Use it and whatever sting you might have felt from the timing of new announcements at NAB will wash away.

Coming from a FS700, and a slew of past cameras including the 5D Mark II and its successors, without a doubt the Epic is the best camera I have ever used. It's a dream come true and we have 0 regrets about making the purchase. Every time we take it out we are amazed at how flexible and feature rich it is. It is a perfect camera as far as we are concerned.

As a small film studio in the very early stages of getting our small business off the ground, a nearly $3,000 cost savings would have gone a long way in us getting where we need to go with our company. We were considering the Epic purchase for months and months, the only part that stings is that if we had waited just a few weeks we would have had a large chunk of cash free to use in other budgets.

So, hopefully Red will extend us the courtesy. Either way, Epic-X #5106 "Scarlet" has a new home with some very happy filmmakers.

I don't know why you would order an Epic 3 weeks before NAB. There was always the chance the Epic was going to come down in price.

To be honest, we didn't even think of NAB. We're sort of engrossed in a grueling schedule of shooting shorts and other projects, and have been for the past 7 months. NAB coming up fell off the radar completely.

Most refreshing thing I have heard on this forum.

Haha fair enough. I would of loved to place my order 3 weeks ago but luckily I didn't and now I save $2k of the epic body ;)

An update: Red responded back, apologizing that they can't extend the credit in price difference, but are going to give us the early adopter discount towards the dragon sensor. So, not as great as we were hoping, but more than they had to do I suppose.

Still, that much more motivation to get the dragon sensor when we qualify for it.

That's not bad, I also just bought my Red Epic begining of March, I guess I'll ask for that discount as well. Thanks.

Hahah the price drop isn't really a price drop to me when I think about it only cause I bought mines in Feb in oregon, no tax, but people told me to wait till nab cause the price would drop. But if I waited till now and I'm home in LA i would have paid the same amount as I did in Oregon anyways on the brain. WIN.........But Nawaf that would have been good to buy it in Oregon at 17,500 :P
