  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Recent Video of TED; mentions Scarlet.

I think some of you guys are staying up too late and speculating a little too much. Ted simply used the Past Tense in the sentence talking about the Scarlet cause he was talking about a past event ie the problems with Japanese suppliers. Though saying that I remember some comments form RED that the Fixed lens had some issues to iron out. Still I don't expect a completely new product to what we are expecting, ie Fixed and interchangeabe/Cinema 2/3.

Personally and its a bit out there. But I always grieved the low profile shotting that the S35 promised, The Epic body is considerably bigger than what the S35 would of been based on photos. I would love a surprise DSLR sized Scarlet/Epic that went back to this smaller form factor....Now I'm speculating too....

Ted's choice of words and the context are very interesting. If there wasn't so much speculation the past tense wouldn't mean much but a case could be made that the problems with the fixed zoom were corrected by a new design of some sort. Poor Ted, he can't win for the the next 6 weeks.

Ketch, or Joseph

Did we ever get to see the footage from this shoot, the footage from the Scarlet?

There are two SCARLET models, a Interchangeable Mini SCARLET with Mini Primes, and the FIXED ZOOM one, like the one Joseph, Nathan and I tested in San Francisco....

Ketch, Do you mind me asking which handle you used on the Fixed Lens Scarlet?

In regards to the thread. I hope they keep both pretty close to what they are. For cost and value, I can understand those with Epic's and R1's being a little irked by having a 4K camera at under 10 grand. In the end most of us will still be releasing our footage to 720,1080 and Web. 3K is enough for me. I prefer the platform they had planned. I love 4K, but the storage goes up which is another cost some of us have to tack on already. In a perfect world I could get both but will likely get one of them and love it. I really see the fixed being the best all around fit to start. I'm sure there are some changes that will blow our minds, but with what has already been presented it seems as if some would be let down.

I hope they're close to the same in cost, and build. 2/3 3K really fits the mold of what I love to shoot. Most of my work will be finished at 1080 still so 3K is more than enough for me :) I don't want to speculate to much and really want what they already presented because it was so awesome!

From a while ago:

The thing I love about this video, is how geeky people are acting - especially that 'Oh Yeah' at 30 seconds into the video. You could replace the video with a nude model and it would make a lot more sense.

I think Ted was going to that the Scarlet HAD an integrated fixed lens that came from Japan, but it will be made now in the USA or some other country, but not any more in Japan. I think...
But he never wanted to say that it HAD an integrated lens and the removed it...

Hey Joseph. I was wondering why there is a picture of the scarlet brain for sale on your twitter pics? It says cant find media when I clicked on it so I guess you took it down, but just thought Id ask.

well the store at red.com shows a picture of a fixed scarlet with the caption coming soon...

He did a pretty good photoshop of being able to purchase one.

Even fooled Jarred into thinking he had hit the "go live" button too soon.

Except, this is the old one that fooled Jarred:

...while the new one fooled a bunch of other people:

Well given Ted's comments, the previously stated problems with lens parts, and Jarred's comment about being off the road map for a while, I wonder if Red will produce the original fixed version they have been showing around since NAB at all for now. Or is it as Monty Python used to say just before they changed the scene, " And now for something completely different"?

What's funny is that after 3 and a half years of pouring over specs and discussing options I just realized today that we'll have a full 60 minutes to digest the info before ordering opens and we have to decide whether or not to be in that first wave of Scarlet owners.

(For the record, I don't expect it to be a tough decision)

I think Luis the problem will be "how fast can you order". Seeing the Canon Mount shipping thread, it really is down to the second for when you order. I tell you guys you better be warned, I used to be unbeatable at the old NES game "track and field". Button mashing is my specialty...

I definitely want to get deposits placed before the end of the year to beat any price increases, but it may take a few months afterwards to gather the shekels.
