For those casual RedUser readers, here's a little roundup of what has happened this week:
  • Adobe Premiere will soon (next week) support R3D natively. That means no more transcoding. Will work on both Mac (Intel only) and PC. Also After Effects. Other (unnamed) applications will follow.
  • Build 16 is now a release version
  • Registration (free) for the Red SDK has opened
  • The 16gb CF cards started shipping
  • All warranty issues with the Birger Mount have been cleared, and Birger Engineering has started shipping the first Canon mounts. Price adjustment for new orders. Nikon mount expected for October.
  • The RedRock micro matte box has started shipping
  • Cameras 2000-2400 are currently being shipped.
  • ET will soon come with a highly adjustable shoulder mount.
Well, that was my selection of the past week, and by no means complete.

this is a great summary (even if its not 100% complete) it should be made some kind of sticky, "the weekly reduser roundup" for me its exactly what i wanted to see cause i cant spend every day of the week on reduser and if i do i dont always find the important news, discussions and revelations, youve just summed it up in one post. Cheers mate.

i second that Mizael.
a weekly round-up would work great for me too

Recap | August 2008

Yep, there goes my productivity ;)

(And: thanks for your help/understanding. Turns out it is much smarter to post attachments in old-school e-mails... Lesson learned.)

Here are the biggest news since the original post, non-chronological and of course incomplete:

  • The Adobe plugin to work with R3D files without the need to transcode has been delayed. The Red wizzards are squashing bugs. Once the first version is out, they will concentrate on speed.
  • RED Ranch announced, a building complex in Las Vegas, housing not only R&D, Sales, Support and a showroom, but a sound stage, pub and sleeping facilities - the latter only for talent. Why rent a booth at NBC if you can buy your own towncentre?
  • RED will swap all audio board on the RED one cameras, to put the audio capabilities on par with the picture quality. At the same time, also the i-pin will be enabled, with a connection to the lens. This makes people working in VFX apparently very, very happy. Upgrade price: 0. RED also covers shipping. If you had your RED one for a while, this would also be a good time to treat your camera to a general overhaul.
  • Cineform has announced support of the R3D format.
  • Birger Mount is about to ship.
  • RED will have a lounge on this year's IBC. It has not been confirmed if there is free wifi access to Reduser... RED will hold a number of 4k screenings in the legendary theatre in Amsterdam. RED is working on a new showreel with footage from RED users.
  • RED EVFs are no longer on back-order, but shipped on order.
  • RED Raids are catching up
  • Build 17 is in the works (link)
  • RED Solid state disks are apparently in production, but not yet shipping
  • RED Monstro sensor will be a free upgrade for the EPIC, and an optional upgrade for the RED One for a fee. Estimated arrival: 2010?
  • Jim also announced plans of building a SLR camera.
  • Monstercine is working on a "Black Box" that allows for very simply on-site backup of data.
  • It is not a good idea to use the name RED in your company name. RED will have to enforce its trademark rights.
  • It is not a good idea to attach .html to PMs - you get instantly banned from Reduser.
  • If your RED One is shipped to Europe, here are the appropriate custom codes: Camera - 8525 80 30 00 // Battery pack - 8507 80 00 00 // Drives - 8471 70 90 00 // LCD - 8531 20 00 20 // 8gig card - 8542 32 00 23 // Various cast handles etc - 7616 99 50 60 // Rods - 7228 40 00 00 // Bolt set - 7318 22 00 00
