I've read lots of conflicting info on Record START/STOP triggers. So, for DSMC2 with a I/O V-Lock Expander, what options are there? Seems that some bodies need cabling one way, others with the expanders need wiring a different way. I've even heard stories of people doing damage to their camera because it was the wrong setup. So, obviously want to avoid that.

Is anyone using a successful setup? If so, what is it?

Thanks Chad, I'll check with them to see what they suggest. @blair - Foolcontrol won't work in this particular application... on a gimbal as a single operator. Need a button.

If you use rtmotion gear you could run the thump wheel up to the gimbal ring and it’s got a record button on it and fiz knob. If you wanted to go foolcontrol you could mount an Apple Watch and have a small wireless control surface. 3D print a little housing for it and use the freefly popnlock would be a cool accessory.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, I don't have the rtmotion in play here. I like the Watch idea if I had one already, but can't see spending $250+ for a watch, plus $170 for Foolcontrol + a custom housing.... just to start/stop record. Though you're right... it would be a cool little setup for control beyond REC. Although I did see there's a special version of Foolcontrol that just does record start/stop, so that does help. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/foolcontrol-r/id1083887280?mt=8

I did find this link for Cinegears, which seems promising as a ready-to-go deal... and could easily strap on to the handle.

Kevin, You could mount fool control with the Really Right clamp http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/Mobile-Phone-Clamp-Stand (you just need the dovetail) and a monitor mount

The advantage of doing this way with fool control is you have full wireless control of the camera (including focus). I considered it, but it may be awkward to use.

foolcontrol is kind of an essential tool for the camera. Once you get it you wonder how you did without it. foolcontrol-r would be great if you just wanted stop record button with the watch on the gimbal ring. Maybe try to find a refurb watch. You can also mount an iPhone to the ring if you wanted but would be harder to reach over with just a finger and hit record. If you were using a readyrig then you could mount the phone on the top of the ring take a hand off from the side and hit record, but wouldn't be as quick and would be more cluttered. I'd say either have the watch or thumbwheel for ease and not taking up too much room and then just have your phone running foolcontrol in your pocket when you need all the features. Using the rt motion kits will give you more future options for expansion, like adding a fiz controller for a 1st ac or having long distance wireless control (with a dedicated mdr near your phone and another at the camera). The rt motion smart knob RF will give you a connection to the brain without needing the MDR box and also gives you future expansion as needed.

Foolcontrol options
- Watch mounted on gimbal ring, foolcontrol-r for run/stop or full version for wifi control
- Phone mounted on gimbal ring, foolcontrol full version for wifi control
- Watch mounted on gimbal ring for run/stop and phone in pocket for full control

RTmotion options would be..
- MDR-SK ($1200) or MDR-M ($943) on brain..run long cable to Thumbwheel($392) mounted on gimbal ring for run/stop and focus. Downside is a cable from gimbal to ring. Also it will give you a thumbwheel as operator and option for a 1st ac to have a wireless controller ($1630) in the future if you wanted.
- Smart Knob RF ($1071), focus knob with buttons for run/stop and other functions. Also leaving you room for expansion.
- MDR-M ($943) one way would be to mount it on top of ring and share power with your monitor and then run a cable down the ring to a Thumbwheel($392) giving you focus and run/stop. The MDR will communicate with the brain over wifi*. This also gives you room to grow your system in the future as needed.

**UPDATE - Mark from RTMotion told me they will have an update for the MDR so it can communicate within the brains wifi range without needing another mdr mounted on the camera.
