Hey All,

Have a music video coming up, and we're playing with the idea of rear projection with some car scenes (shooting for "not perfect" poor mans process, a little corny)

just wondering if anyone could recommend any projectors that would work well with RED, any problems anyone has encountered, advice, anything, etc...

I have little experience with rear projection so I'm trying to read up on it as much as I can and we won't be able to get any test shoots done. we can test on set but won't have the option to replace anything if it doesn't work out, ha!

could there be any problems with the rolling shutter, etc?

Again, any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Cheers

"24" uses poor mans process for almost all the driving shots, but they're shooting film, and unfortunately I don't know what brand/model of projectors they use, just that their main concern was brightness.

Sorry, not a lot of extremely useful information, but maybe there is more detailed info in an old issue of American Cinematographer. Or, if you have any connections to the show, I bet there's a good chance that Rodney's shot some tests - or at least would have some good advice.

actually. with the improvement of digital projection,

this process is seeing a rebirth as its much easier to shoot than Green/Blue Screen.

in fact, if you search... you will several patents filed for improving DOF while shooting RP.

I'd ask David Mullen if he has had a recent experience...

cool I remember that article in AC about 24, I'll have to dig it up, I wish I could have a chat with Mr. Charters, ha!
On cinematography.com I was told it is best to use a LCD projector and to steer clear of DLP with the red. I'm not looking for a perfect image, the idea is supposed to come off as a bit corny, but I do want to be aware if there are any huge issues that would be directly affected by shooting with RED

Again, thanks for you guys input and advice, any other tips/recommendations are greatly appreciated!

cheers
