  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Really?

Timur that's why light is still an enigma for us; once we solve it ,we will reach the light speed for sure :))) Here is an article about wave and particle duality, light will be explored again and it will change the game ......

I wouldn't call Arri Ultra Primes old lenses. Or Arri Master Primes. I got plenty of streak flares using Ultra Primes that were problematic.

A director should not have to re-block a shot because a light that is out of frame is causing an unmotivated very strong vertical flare to appear in the frame. Lens flare yes. It can be very beautiful and is usually motivated in a shot because you see the source in the shot. That's what we did in several scenes. And the interesting thing is that when we shot directly into the sun or other point sources looking for lens flare in the shot, it was beautiful. But when you pan off of the point source... BAM. There's the nasty streak flare—usually in the bottom of the frame. (I wonder if that is because the image is flipped on the sensor plane so light entering the top of the frame causes a flare on the bottom of the image)

While you're right that new lenses designed for digital sensors do have better coatings on the rear element, this particular problem is NOT a lens issue. REPEAT, it is NOT a lens issue. When I get a chance, I'll post really good examples of it. Shooting with a mattebox.

This was shooting an Epic M. So hopefully the problem was corrected for EPIC X. Now if it had been, you'd think we'd see a post from RED on this issue.

Silence would indicate that there is indeed an issue. They just aren't prepared to talk about its implications or proposed solution just yet.

I'm sure they will. I hope it is soon so we can get a quick fix via a camera update.

BTW, I love the Epic to pieces. I can't wait to get mine. The imagery and resolution is stunning. We were shooting up into the canopy of a giant Oak tree directly into the sun. You could see a single spider web 30' up, backlit by the sun. Tiny little hairs on a baby's face. Incredible detail in the iris of his eyes. I'll never shoot an Alexa. But I love this camera so much I want it to be perfect :)

The camera doesn't care what lenses is on the camera, but the wider the lens, the easier it can be to deal with. You can put eyebrows, side brows and bottom brows (matt box flags) on the matt box and you can get rid of a lot of it up until about 65mm (after that you can't really get a hard enough cut to stop it). If your light is in the frame or the camera is moving through the light source, you can't flag it. To build a box around a matt box kind of goes against the spirit of the EPIC (moving fast, hand held, etc). I have an M, don't know about X but I have one coming. It's weird to have to post here about this. RED?
