ok... geez... points made quite well enough. folks are quite capable of making their own decisions at this point as to what they would like to do, and there are several options available at this point.

Enough conversation on this. Please reserve comment on this thread for it's actual purpose.

No more debate on whether or not you like it. I don't want to have to sift through pages of repetitive debate to see if I missed someone, or changed their name incorrectly and messed up their ability to log in, etc.

Later,
Jason

Tol'ja the mods were lazy:biggrin:

Afterthought: In re: your remark Imagine only going to social events where people wore masks and won't use their names -- that's "warm" and inviting?...

That's called a Masquerade Ball. They were very popular among the French who are indeed a "warm" (maybe not inviting) blooded people. There was a mystery there. Not an office filled with cubicles but with rooms that people could walk in to when invited (PMs.)

I agree with your sentiments.

When I read David's post, I first thought of the Venice carnival. Nice to have a little privacy. Even in public.

If we're not supposed to discuss our opinions on the matter...

And the actual procedure is supposed to be via PM...

What IS the actual purpose of the thread?

Among the huge number of members there is also Mr X, his boss, his client and the competitor.... how the real Mr X would dare posting something like:

"On my last shoot, using Y,Z,W equipment or software, the image quality dropped and I had a serious loss of detail...Please help identify the problem!"

This kind of community mutual help and advice/knowledge/troubleshooting shared knowledge is one of the main missions of this kind of "focused social/professional forums".

The main reason behind staying anonymous is not to insult people from behind a mask, most of the guys here are professionals or trying to become pros by learning and by making mistakes also...
We don't share our technical problems with clients.

Just a thought on how the politically correct can undermine the mission of these boards while the main strength of Red is by breaking the rules...

With all respect to the different opinions on the subject... and yes Korek is my real name

There's always the option of making RedUser posts inaccessible if you aren't a registered user.

I don't know what code you use as the basis for the boards, but I think you could even designate it on a board-by-board basis, so that Jim could still hype the public through Recon while the rest of the forums were registered-users-only. That would solve a lot of folks' hesitations to the idea, sounds like.

i havent the will to sift through 30 pages, but I want to know if Finner was granted a waiver :-)

Add one more vote for this! :) It just wouldn't be reduser without Finner and his avatar....

For those who are jumping ship, which site are you going to frequent instead?

It doesn't look like I have the permissions to view user 453.

I have no idea what this "Real Name" thing is anyway - did I miss something?

ohhhh... now I get it.

Does it really matter if people see your "real" name? Make something up if you don't like it I guess.
