  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Some people are overestimating their importance - 9 billion people google-stalking someone? Please cut the BS.

Jim Jannard, Jarred Land and others could be the ones to hide behind lawyers and spokesmen but they don`t.

I am not very important, yet my credit card number was stolen and was attempted to be used. So unlike Meryem who has been involved in identity theft, I have been a victim. And in the coming days, ANYONE with a good credit rating may be VERY important to identity thieves.

You and I are in complete agreement on this assumption. I was talking about his remark that unless you are a Jim Jannard or other, then you do not have to worry. I say that premise is false.

As much as I am enjoying this thread - I gotta say - if you SERIOUSLY think that posting on a web forum with your real name increases the chance of identity theft - I suggest you do a bit more research. Gee ... I wonder how many real names and birthdays, and names of sons and daughters I can find on IMDB ...

Why? Why do the research? It is a much more efficient use of my time to just choose to stop posting if the real name policy takes effect. I will continue to post until they disable my ability to post. If they post my name without my consent, then they may become libel for any adverse effects to me or mine because I am on record both in PMs and in postings that I forbid them arbitrarily changing my username to the name I gave them in strict confidence.

Besides, research doesn't guarantee a correct result. Read the stories... watch the news... go with your gut.

The one worry I have is if I'm posting about issues with my camera and someone sees that and they decide to use someone else's. I'd like there to be an anonymous section for this. This is not me being paranoid. Many people look here before renting the red.

This thread is pretty ridiculous. A few people here are definitely mistaking paranoia with caution. Paranoia isn't healthy. It's an extreme, irrational distrust of others.

It's fine to be cautious, but the mods here aren't even asking for your full name. So saying that posting here under part of your real name is dangerous, is being a little bit paranoid.

I refer you back to my post #243. I think the material I referenced stated how easy it is to ascertain your name from even small amounts of information. Not saying you were referring to me in your post, but I think there is much more reason to distrust an online presence than a personal one. In a personal encounter, clues about ones intent or being are hard to disguise. Online, it's all 0's and 1's.

And for the record, I have no problem with the mods having my real name... they do. But why is it important for OTHERS to have my real nom? If I post something that is untoward, then that's when Mods moderate. I've no problem with their having dictatorial authority. Just remove something if they think it improper.... although i think they should have a meeting between themselves to decide if they are removing something unfairly due to their oun prejudice.

I think the mods are just lazy and don't want to have to moderate so much.:tongue:

I said it before and I will say it again. First, this is a forum about professionals or people wanting to become professionals in this beautiful industry. Second, to be taken seriously there are two things that carry the only weight in any business and thats your name and your reputation as a creative individual. I believe that if you want to be taken seriously in this business or any other you have to come up front and communicate in a transparent way not hide behind nicknames or whatnot. If you are paranoid then don't even get an internet account. Be alert but stop living in fear, believe me is not a nice place to be.
