  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Real frame rates...

So, now all we have to do is convince every living human being on Earth to buy a RED camera and then they will be dirt cheap! :w00t:

Not that they aren't already cheap for what they offer. :)

Like I said before, if you kids only knew how hard it was to make a decent high speed camera...

I think from the ''tentative'' specs of Nov.14, 2008?

You mean before we changed the program? How come you only remember the one spec that is gone and not all that was improved? Not really fair. We listened and made huge investments to be able to satisfy 99% of what customers wanted and what we originally set out to accomplish. Would you like to go back to that spec? Would you like us to rework the whole program again? Can you wait another year? You have seen the best we can do. I sincerely hope that is good enough.

Relax, it was a joke! :)

Relax, it was a joke! :)

I have heard the same joke too many times. There is a not-so-quiet group that keeps bringing this one up. Most of the time I don't see the clown face attached to the request.

I will take your advice and relax on it now. We have tried very hard to listen and accommodate our customer's wishes. But every time we find a way to up the specs, the requests keep coming. We have now passed the point where we can do more. Having come to that realization puts me at ease. I hope the board feels the same way.

Bring on the Scarlets and Epics! They will be great as is. Thank you.

I must say Jim you have the longest patience and understanding ... i think its great you listen and explain even though you've no real need to either way ...I'm not trying to brown nose just saying out of general respect ...you don't get that much these days ...this doesn't change anything i still think you're absolutely crazy all the same. For what i stand to get out of it you could be on the edge of madness an ill encourage you to jump :)

Things are good.

But I don't understand why are the 2/3" Scarlets delayed for Autumn`09 [or later].

Mr. Jannard, you said that the little beauty will come out after NAB`09.

You promised... :waaa: :waaa: (:whistling:)

I hope the board feels the same way.

For a second I thought you meant the board of directors... which I don't think there is. Then I realized, in a way, we're the board of directors... a really needy, whiny board of directors.

Jim, I'm just going to cover my eyes and blindly hand you my credit card for a Scarlet. Even if you hand me just a box with a RED logo on it, I'll be more than happy.

You guys really are amazing. Remind me why I settled for 720p24n on my HVX, again?

But every time we find a way to up the specs, the requests keep coming.

I am more than happy with my RED One, and was already more than amazed by the November announcements.

But rest assured, you are not the lonely warrior, most of us really do appreciate what you have already done.

Thanks for the past, thanks for the present, and thanks for the future.

there is always some pretty hardcore interpolation software out there ...:construction: for some reason the french and canadians seem to be great software developers for these sorts of things p.s my 400th post...better say something profound...judge me not by my answers but by my questions :)

Jim, I know you bear alot of weight on this board and you do it out of care and concern. You wouldn't be on here and share your time and knowledge with us if you didn't care.

I am sorry for the perceived levels of ungrateful "children" you have. You have heard it before I am sure, but I want to state it again:

I am very grateful to you. You have done more than build a camera, you have changed an industry and many of our lives. Thank you.

Many of us are just geeks (myself being the model I look at to use the term) talking too much in a "what if" way. Some are forever hungry.

Personally I am just excited that there is someone with means and ethics at the wheel of the boat.

The frustrating thing with the board is that someone (who has no idea what it takes) asks a legitimate question like... "can't you just give us xxx in this body?" It seems innocent enough...

Then, someone else (who has no idea what can or can't be done) says, "of course they can, but they are won't because they are protecting their EPIC"... or some other like statement.

Then a group gets together to lobby for that to get done. All the while, it just is not possible. Or if it is, it is at the expense of something else... a trade no one wants to make.

Pretty quickly, there is mob rule. The most frustrating part is that I have already fully explained "why not" somewhere on the board, usually more than once.

Jim

I think that this is the point where the "3k at 60fps" mob needs to disband.
The sister group of "I want a monstro sensor in my vespa" might consider a hiatus as well.
The last thing any of us wants is to see Jim go silent.

The net result is that you CAN have everything. It is called EPIC. You can have any size sensor you want. You can have high frame rates and highest data rate REDCODE. You can have any I/O you want. And you can upgrade forever. It costs 10% of the nearest competitor's product. And that product is not close to the performance specs of EPIC. We really can't do any better than we have announced. We are offering options not available by anyone at prices that have no competition. We listened to ergonomic requests. We have spent a ton of money on resources to enable major league advancements in the industry. Now we are finally OK with the concept that not everyone can afford RED. No matter what we do.

Jim

I can't wait to see some images at RC250 off of a Monstro.
