Hi guys,

I was wondering if premiere's ability to edit R3Ds at lower res (1/2, 1/4, etc) effects required read/write speeds of the HHD the footage is on. For example, while editing in 1/2 res, am I cutting needed read rate of my HHD in half?

I'm currently looking into buying an external raid system and was wondering what the required read/write speed is for editing 6K footage at say 1/2 - 1/8 res in Premiere. I have been editing 6K R3Ds at 1/4 on a 2 HHD raid0 set up, and it's been working fine for now. So, I'm wondering if I would even see any boost in performance with a 4 HHD raid0 set up or if I should just stick to 2HHD raid0 systems for now.

Thanks a bunch!

Marc

You still need to read the whole file to get 1/2 - 1/8, unless the files are cached. The 6K R3D data rates are not that high, so higher compressions run from a single HD, and lower compressions would run from a 2 disk raid.
