  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAW-RAW and REDCODE-RAW editing

This is the nature of a compressor / decompresser. As long as the algorithm is not demosaicing the material, then its still RAW, just compressed RAW. What determines how close you can get depends upon if the process is lossless or lossy. The journey through both paths of the process can have zero impact if its a mathematically lossless process. The issue is trading off the footprint (size) and the quality. That is where the real art is.

So that means "Yes you can"

Remember!!!! Writer, Director, Producer here. I had to go to Wikipedia to find out what the hell demosaicing was.

:) :) :)

How about the rest of it guys. In english this time. I bet Picard never had to use Wikipedia:angry03:

P.S. Thanks allot KH I kidd because I love.

Well I would like to have more infos on REDCODE editing, as so far I haven't read any info from the 51 first RED owner. How is FCP (without the native REDCODE option) going, and what about other NLE?

For Uncompressed RAW (from RED raw port), I already know that editing is not a present option (that's tooooo heavy for editing). You would do offline.

I know "codex" has something for uncompressed field recording, but if REDCODE raw has enough information for vfx and color grade, then I don't see the point to record uncompressed right now.

I'm not one of the 1st 51, so obviously not speaking from personal experience.

I notice though Evin mention he transcoded to ProRes to cut the music video. Although FCP is fairly flexible with different Quicktime codecs, it is much happier with the ones it knows, particulary when it comes to setting it as the timeline codec. Not tried it for a while, but I do remeber trying to set an Avid codec as the codec for a timeline, and FCP wouldn't even open it. Similarly I can't open an H264 Quicktime in the viewer, but I can drop one into a ProRes timeline.

Anyhow, what I'm basically saying is I suspect working with REDCODE directly in FCP is probably not viable until the update arrives. But I'm not concerned about that, as that's what the update is for!

When it happens,
In the meantime, Scratch anybody?
