Hi,

Is there a way to export a self contained movie with the original RAW information? Or export a new raw?

This would be good, then it can really be a true digital master of the film. Then when the color tech get updated in the future, then it's a matter of re-rendering or just update the player.

This can also be a good format to send to digital theatres.

This is not possible. I doubt it will ever be... And for going to the digital theatres this wouldn't be a good idea.... how will they know what settings to use?

If you mean...

I think Clipfinder from Hans georg can conform a sequence to .R3d using the replace .mov with R3D (I never use clipfinder for this)

Monkey extract can do it for sure from a XML/EDL

but actually there isn´t a Film house or Digital master tech that acept this format.

Raw is Raw

you need to apply a metadata (Kº, ISO, gammas) to see something with sense.

much better you apply this metadata in yours productions and then export a DPX/CIN or uncompressed. Exporting of course from original RAW.

Yes RAW is RAW. For me it's like the old story of VHS and Beta. One is better then the other, but the one that will rule the world in the end is the one that gets used most.

If I can save my stuff in .R3D, I will use it all the time and also deliver master to customer.
The time is now for a RAW format to be widely used like jpg.

Actually I save everything

I mean, all .r3d shoots, EDLs and FCP/AVID project... in 90 $ dedicated to storage drive.

An recover the whole project, and do a diferent edit or grade from original RAW in a couple of years if needed.

Raw is the future? for me is a fact... will see.

Actually the new RedCineX shows 'RAW' as one of its output formats, and since it has editing capabilities its conceivable you could assemble some clips together and output them as 'RAW' which is essentially like media managing.
