After seeing all of the features of the Raven Im really considering moving to Raven (which will also get me back into upgrade potential hopefully). I like the Dragon sensor, lower compression (doubt ill use it, just like knowing its an option lol), higher frame rate at 4k, lighter weight and smaller size. All of my lenses are EF mount so the fixed mount isnt an issue.

Also, will we be able to swap sensors if we want to add lowlight sensor or skintone sensor, etc?

its not sensor swaps its olpf swaps and no its only the one olpf which is the standard one. if you look into the red orb/reflection problem and the DEB problem you might end up deciding standard isn't so bad after all is my guess and that swapping OLPFs is a luxury that you can live without. the auto black shades plus no orb/deb issues plus reduced/better cmos smear (if any at all) makes weapon kick serious ass vs dragon scarlet and MX it has you beat on black shades and color rendition/dynamic range/frame rates/compression if you can settle for the fixed mount and slightly different field of view sensor size wise. so i think its a great f*cking deal for many reasons...esp for a scarlet mx or dragon owner if the swappable OLPFs and sensor size aren't mission critical (along with the PL mount). the problem is there is real give and take here depending what your highest priority is...for me its like i like PL for anamorphic potential but i like high frame rates, and i really like auto blackshade, i dare say I LOVE AUTOBLACKSHADE!!!

no but seriously the blackshades was something that seriously pissed me off all the time, so like as far as I'm concerned i got a deposit on a raven and a weapon upgrade too and i may end up going weapon only or Forged like no clue but weapon/raven has some really legitimate features that appeal to me over DSMC1, but also milking my DSMC1 as long as i can is probably a pretty profitable idea too while still upgrading before the program ends for upgrades so thats my preferred goal i think and i ordered 8k but kind of unsure about it all still for the most part. id weigh your options cuz raven is a steal but DSMC1 scarlets and scarlet dragons do have some features that some need sometimes...like i hate the EF only part for lensing options and would want to shoot on mod leicas or dumb mod glass unless I'm doing fool control on EF glass, which also looks really appealing and like a good workflow... id def consider it for sure, or maybe even keep your old camera cuz I'm sure the prices will keep falling in the short term as many seek to make the leap too so at a certain point a DSMC1 whether its MX or dragon still has its uses, feature sets, etc. its got a lot more life in the market than an old red one, and many people won't have DSMC2 stuff for quite some time I'm betting, myself included in that cuz i signed up dead last

honestly I'm surprised the scarlet mx is still being sold for $7950. No one is going to buy a scarlet over a raven. I thought the mx was going to be discontinued, and the price slashed by at least half.

You are probably 95% right but there is one notable advantage Scarlet-X has over Raven: you can take delivery now! That's worth something.

if they slash prices the current owners get pissed...if they fire sell the traded in ones BT same result...so they have to wait until DSMC2 makes some real market penetration to do this without pissing off a bunch of DSMC2 potential customers is part of the issue i imagine...they took quite some time to do the red one fire sale, we probably will be waiting much longer, to the point where a lot of us want DSMC2 anyway by the time DSMC1 fire sale happens.. and for anamorphics/S35 die hards/people with tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars not invested in EF a raven just is a hard sale. if i had grabbed all the anamorphics i been drooling over for months i couldn't possibly justify the raven without finding a safe PL adaptor (that is also red approved for DSMC2, so good luck on that front for quite some time)... i think there is a market still for S35, higher resolution and PL/nikon/whatever so some people just can't hang with raven... but if they can beg/borrow steal up to a weapon MG or CF they could be happy too... DSMC2 has a giant price point difference in systems here....

Scarlet MX should be the "4K for all" cam because its market value is low. It still puts out nice images, especially if you're good with lighting.

The Scarlet also has the ability to use a PL mount.

i thought the only advantage scarlet x had over raven was hdr-x and ability to shoot 5k images but now it's apparently confirmed that Raven does Hdrx as well, and at much higher speeds than Scarlet-x so that kills that theory. Now the only thing Scarlet-x can do over the Raven is take 5k stills and take PL glass natively. Other than that I can't think of a single thing Scarlet has over Raven at this point in time. I agree with Akin the scarlet is the true 4k4all because I feel like its price should drop drastically when Raven comes out

There is also the bigger scarlet-x sensor (22,12mm instead of 20,48mm). A bit larger FOV, a bit shallower DOF, less crop factor.

Raven also has HDRx

Humm, the Scarlet still has the same sensor at 4k as the Epic MX. I work it well. If you really need the frame rates I can understand but I feel no need of buying a new camera for my 24p shooting. Now I will be buying a new A cam this year but the Scarlet is not getting replaced anytime soon. I like the look.

As a Scarlet X owner I am overwhelmed! I am happy. I am confused, but I am happy! I was planning to buy a Scarlet Dragon next week. Now I am not sure, it is confusing. I know it is 5K vs 4K and other advantages. But 4K @120 fps, and the new lighter brain, its crazy....I am so happy being part of this RED family.

Any suggestions what makes more sense a Scarlet Dragon VS. a RAVEN??? I still cannot determined that. One has advantages, and at the same time disadvantages...crazty times... Fun Fun. heheheheheh

Scarlet Dragon. More versatile. The compression at 120fps on the Raven is 13:1 and you should expect some blotchy noise. In my opinion the Raven is a nice 4K 60fps camera. The scarlet dragon makes some clean 5kWS 60fps and 5kFF 48fps images.
But it seems there will be an upgrade in a few monthes.

Scarlet Dragon iis arguably better. You get 5K motion, anamorphic mode, as well as a bigger sensor and interchangeable lens mounts. Downside is the "old" DSMC body, or an upside I guess because the accessories for those are cheap on the used market.

I don't know, people are making a lot of assumptions about Raven/Weapon compression before anyone has much actual experience. Dragon compression was way better than X so I'd just wait and see what is possible before starting to fret.
