  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAVEN price go up 4/22

Today is April 1

Today is April 1

$10.

I think I remember them saying it would go up $1000.

Am I correct is assuming that if we have it pre-ordered before that date we pay the current price?

I read Jarred post about this a few weeks ago, I think this is very weird and doesn't make sense at all with the URSA 4,6K now shipping and other new cameras in the horizon.

To my eyes looks like RED's smart marketing strategy trying to push new user to order more Ravens at NAB. I would really understood an increase in the mighty Scarlet-W. Just after the later was announced I think many people had seconds thought about Raven and moved to S-W which in my opinion is a lot of camera for the money (compared to past prices): true 5k (16x9) optional PL, etc, interchangable OLPF, etc ( I wasn't never really sure about Raven )

While I'm sure part of the plan is to get a large influx of orders from people still on the fence. The sheer amount of orders they already have on the Raven which they've noted a few times completely surpassed their expectations, has probably proven to them that they could be charging more for it.

Epic MX price increased for a short time before being reduced to below the original cost, why would it be different this time?

Yep, certain thing are really weird here, I would never forget and forgive Last year when they created this weird deadline about Dragon Sensor Upgrade program... Just to make an anoucement a few weeks later that pissed off a lot of people...

there is not logic to increase the price of a camera after Released... Even less with a strong USD.

Funny thing about RED's transparency is that they seem to generate a lot of speculation (and get a lot of grief) based on people thinking that they know everything about RED's internal business. I doubt that is they case. For every single tidbit of information known to us, there are 10 additional ones on which RED has to base their business decisions.

RED actually warned everyone that prices would go up. Would folks rather they got blindsided by finding it out after the fact? As far as what it may mean in the bigger picture, it's anybody's guess. No one knows the future and companies like RED aren't obligated to broadcast everything they do and think. Personally, I think they act pretty fairly towards their customers.

For the record, I am one of those who was induced to spend $10K to upgrade my Scarlet before NAB last year. It ended up getting me a) a better camera in the interim and b) a discount on a Scarlet-W, if/when I want to go that route. If I had it to do over, I'd probably have waited and spent the same dollars directly on Scarlet-W. But that's life. No one cheated me. I made a decision. Life goes on.
