Raven pixel error / dead pixel?

Hey guys,

I have been travelling and filming with the Raven for about a month now and just noticed in post, that I have a small pixel error or dead pixel in my footage. It´s a tiny white point bottom center. I performed a black shading only once before my trips. On the footage of the first trip to Denmark, the pixel does not show, only after my second trip to Australia and it remained there for all following shoots. It is only visible in fairly dark shots.

Here is a screenshot for you guys to see: https://www.dropbox.com/s/rhmc7lq8zralmxy/RED_#000544_pixel1.jpg?dl=0

Does anyone have an idea where this could have suddenly come from and would another black shading fix it? Or would I need to send in the camera?

Thanks for your help and advice in advance,
Moritz

Hey Moritz,

I had the same occuring on my old epic-MX. A blackshade fixed the problem.

Can you try that?

let me know!

I did some research and apparently strong temperature changes (I filmed in Australia at 30 Celsius and then Helsinki at -7 Celsius) could have caused the pixel to appear. Followed your advice and ran the blackshade. After a few recording tests in different light situations and different frame rates, the pixel seems to be gone!! THANKS SO MUCH!

Guess I will do blackshading before shoots more often now. :)

Blackshade is very is a variation in temperature of even 5. I have filmed inside and outside a glass factory, and the red T appears due to the change in temp. With going back and forth so often, I saved the different temperature black shades onto the card and loaded them as I needed. I used the card, because it was more slots than I had available on my Dragon for various shutter speeds (360 shutter, 180 shutter, 45 shutter and 12.5) and various temps.

Hope that helps.
