Okay, let me ask the "stupid" questions that I'm sure a lot of people new to RED are wondering.

Hate to say it, but I'm a bit confused at the difference between the JetPack and Base I/O package.

I mean, I can see that they have different components, but what do the components do and how do I determine which package I want?

Does the existence of the Sidekick imply that the Raven itself has no controls and is remotely controlled by your iPhone or other device?

And I guess these packages come without a battery, and batteries are $450 each? Do I need a battery charger as well, or does it charge through the AC adapter?

Thanks!

David

You have to read the documentation on the accessories, it's all there.

Base IO and Jetpack are totally different. Jetpack does not take a battery and is an end module. Base IO you put BEFORE your battery plate. Jetpack is mostly for gimbals.

You can control raven with the sidekick, or with a red touch monitor, or with foolcontrol app using the built in wifi.

Your battery solution is either the redvolt XL's using a redvolt XL module. Or use a Anton Bauer or v mount battery plate and those batteries.

Hi David, noticed your join date... same as my original one and after all these years, like you, I'm never completely sure I have everything sorted. I can't help you on the jet pack etc. as I'm buying Brain only with intention to get the base expander with v mount to go with it.

As for operating the camera, you have at least three options (One is fool control via wi-fi but there may be other options using wi-fi via something not Apple centric... if not available now, then maybe later) a second option is the side kick which can allow you access to the menus while perhaps using an HDMI cheapo (I presume the base expander has HDMI?) small monitor for framing. Thirdly, you can get one of the RED touchscreen monitors and control the camera through that.

There may be other options but nothing else comes to mind.

The jet pack is designed for Gimal / Drone use. It has all the interface for powering and connectivity to the camera. Its not a battery adapter.

The WEAPON® Jetpack Expander is specifically designed for aerial, gimbal, handheld, and other lightweight/remote configurations. This expander features standard connectors for power (DC-IN), CTRL, and SYNC for all of your Timecode and Genlock needs. In addition, the WEAPON Jetpack Expander offers custom-tailored supports and connectors for HDMI and USB power out—perfect for housings and low-profile setups.

The WEAPON Jetpack Expander also features a selector switch that enables the WEAPON or RED RAVEN™ BRAIN® to automatically boot when power is provided via the DC IN connector on the expander. This feature allows you to use a connected DC input supply to turn the BRAIN on and off when the camera is mounted in remote or difficult to maneuver locations.
