So we just got word from RED that we can expect delivery of our Raven brain early 2017.
So I am wondering what all do I need to get the Raven functional?

We ordered the brain a few weeks ago, but I have no clue what else we need to buy.
I would appreciate any help you guys can give.

I have been doing video work for many years using DSLR's and finally making the leap to a RED.
The reason we chose the Raven is because a lot of we I do is on the go, in real life capturing things in the wild.
Currently using full frame DSLR's on a Ronin-M, plus other rigs.

I was going to order the Drone/Gimbal package, is that necessary?

Would the Ronin-M work with the Raven?

Thanks!

Thanks, I just read that whole thread to get a better understanding. Maybe I can ask more specific questions, since that was for a Scarlet, and I have a Raven coming.
To my understanding, some things aren't the same for both brains.

I need a battery, but I see you can't just connect a battery, you need a JetPack to attach a battery to the brain?

Then I need A mini mag station to connect a mini mag?

A monitor, and some sort of bracket kit to install the monitor?

Also, lets talk lenses. I've been shooting Nikon D800E and Nikon D750's.
Now, I know the Raven brain brings the EF Mount. Before the Nikon D750, I used to use the 5D Mark III as camera 2 quite a bit so I just used an adapter that allows a Nikon lens to go onto an EF Mount Canon camera.

I currently have a Nikkor 35mm 1.8, Nikkor 50mm 1.8, NIkkor 85mm 1.8, Sigma 12-24mm 4.5, and several other Nikkor zooms. Would these lens be fine to start off?

I have noticed a lot of guys on here recommend the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 which is actually very affordable. I am better off just buying this lens?

To better understand what I will need, maybe I should give a little more info on what I would be using it for.
So there will be multiple purposes for this camera. It'll be to use on my own projects, as well as client projects.

My own projects consist of Fly Fishing films / fly fishing web series. It's all outside, with natural lighting except for the interview shots. Some of it will be low light, sunrise & sundown type stuff, but mostly out fishing in the everglades, or up in the mountains.

The second purpose for the camera would be for some of our clients. We work with iHeart Media doing event coverage for some of their concerts, as well as shoot music videos for established country music artists. This is where the Raven will come more into play. The main reason for the purchase is that the record labels have expressed their willingness to give us more jobs, and bigger budget projects solely based on us using a RED camera. They have been blown away with what we have done for them using DSLR's now they just want to justify cutting us bigger checks if we're using a RED.

We intend for this Raven to just be our first camera, we will need a "camera 2" quickly, as we usually have two cameras rolling at all times. We intend on buying a second one once we have gotten comfortable with it and a better understanding of what we need and what works best for our situation.

Thanks again!

all of the battery/monitor/media accessories will work on your raven. for me the Base I/O was great because it offers more flexability. the Jetpack would work fine for you, but you would have to find a way taht works for you to attach a battery to it.

mini mag station is to connect to your computer to get your footage off the media (mini Mag)

a red touch monitor is highly recommended,I use a 5" touch but there are many choices out there, (4.7", 7" etc) the newer ones attach directly to the camera. (I prefer mounting the monitor seperately)

Raven is a Fixed EF lens mount yes. I do think there are some options out there to adapt your nikon lenses but im not sure

D750 is a fantastic FF DSLR to film with! :) I want one myself. Plus a killer versatile stills camera!

Yes that set of lenses is a fine starting point, I often use them on an adapter to EF mount when I needed too, and yes getting a Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 (again in Nikon F mount) would be a fine additional lens to get.
