  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Looking to join the RED world with the Raven, have my deposit in, but the new Scarlet-W is also intriguing...

Personally can't quite reach for the Scarlet-W budget right now, so was wondering if I would be able to upgrade at a later time? Seems clear Jarred doesn't like to leave any users in the dust, so I would hope so, but haven't seen any mention of it yet anywhere. Though, seeing as it would require a full sensor replacement and a new front plate to accommodate for the switchable mount and OLPF, I can also see it not being offered, as it might not be financially viable. In which case, only hope would be when the next generation sensors roll around at a likely hefty price tag. If there's no upgrade path within current lineup of cameras from Raven, might pull deposit on Raven until I can squeeze Scarlet-W, but would love to get shooting on RED ASAP. Thanks!

I think the question of upgradeability for the Raven has been brought up a few times in various message threads, but I can't recall seeing a response from Red on this one, so I'm curious as well.
 
i dont think youd ever be able to physically upgrade the brain but im sure, like all other cameras there will be an upgrade path one day for all of us that made the jump into our first RED camera, i think that was one of the most intriguing parts of the such a great deal, joining the family.
(jarred just insert a "Y" into this thread and we wont ask any questions until one year after delivery) :P
 
Well scarlet didn't have a trade in this time...
 
I thought it's just a credit? In either case the price point is nice
 
The upgrade has never been the most economical way to do things. Selling your used Raven brain, you would probably only be out $1500 I would guess.
 
When I heard about Scarlet-W I changed my Raven order.. The Raven while amazing and I was SOOOOO looking forward to owning one did not seem like the type of thing that could be easily upgraded.. The Fixed lens mount is one of the reasons for this, matched with the unique sensor size.. By releasing the Scarlet info now, RED has left that choice up to us. In the end, the scarlet just seems to make more sense. I very thankful I was able to make this change before my Raven came and then sat there wishing I had a scarlet.

I feel the same way about some of Raven's features. There was a direct and open upgrade path with Scarlet-W to Weapon which was nice to know & combine that with the features the Raven does differently the Scarlet felt like a nice longterm option for me. I still think Raven is a fantastic camera & for most of the people who are coming over to the RED ecosystem i think it'll be all they need and more. Raven will have an upgrade path.. but it will probably be not as cut and dry as Scarlet-W's.. but who knows since it's all speculation til the fat lady sings.

haha, i was waiting to see what you were doing since you have been so raven crazy lately, haha nice!… though for me, im sticking with raven, id rather spend the extra on the evf then having 5k.

If you did the $10k upgrade to dragon, you do indeed get a $2,500 trade in credit, if you have an MX then no.

when I saw I could fit the lenses my friend like to use I was sold :)
edit: I'm still crazy about the raven.. I'm kinda sad I won't have one now/yet
