  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Basically, yes! ;) I don't know if you've been involved in the sensor producing process, and know more about it, but I don't. And I'm not as naive as thinking about the process of producing a wafer and then chopping it up into chunks, thank you ;)

I assume you misread my post in a sense of self-fulfilling expectation (as in that was what you expected to hear) but my post didn't have anything to do with widespread belief. It was merely sort of thinking out loud and seeking for more thorough answers.
I have no clue how REDs sensors are being produced. But I assume neither do you. And I didn't say anything about cutting up wafers like waffles but was thinking more in the way of wafer real estate if that makes sense. But then, I still only know the round wafers I was shown a few years ago.

And I'm sorry, but I don't believe they are using a 6K sensor in the Raven and only "blacking out" the "unused" part of it. But hell if I know! If you do know more for sure, let us know.

Exactly what I meant when I said that "probably... won't be happening or I won't be able to afford it".

I was trying to make a point about the Scarlet Dragon vs the Raven and the usefulness of a stills option in the "lower" DSMC cameras and at the same time trying to remember everyone that the Scarlet Dragon upgrade path is not known to us other than it will be coming and the "Heh heh heh" from Jarred today ;)

...remember, the Red One has 4.5 WS as well as Anamorphic mode. Would be great to see Scarlet MX upgraded (at the very least) to match these specs.

But that's assuming that the Scarlet X is capable of 4.5K @ 24fps. It's an assumption; we have no idea if it can be done.
But of course it would be great. I give you that ;)

I'm very very tempted now but I'm gonna hold off til the Scarlet Dragons Replacement. Gotta have PL Mount I have to much money invested in glass to then jump into an EOS eco system.

I do like what you are doing here this is a great jump for Raven those extra Pixels will make a huge difference and a great way to compete with all the other lesser options. Red has always been about pixels and goddammit you guys are giving it to us.

Saving up like mad and awaiting a 5K Mount Interchangeable camera that will replace Scarlet Dragon I think thats where I belong.

If only I had money to afford both :/

True. It is an assumption. Maybe my logic is flawed, but we know it can do 5k at 12fps so the sensors size is there, so what would be holding back a firmware upgrade to squeeze out and extra .5k at 24fps? It has been said it's a "hardware" issue, but the hardware seems to be there with the size of the sensor.
 
I just posted this news over on Fred Miranda in the Sony forum where they're always arguing with me that there's nothing wrong with Sony making them buy a new A7s every single year for such monumental changes as a slightly larger grip and the inclusions of features like uncompressed raw (stills) which they intentionally withheld from the first version.

Just saying. Loving you guys.

It's increasing the rows/height/Y that requires heavier processing. Raven now being 4.5k is a prime example -- the sensor is 512pixels wider, but still the same 2160pixel high, allowing for the same 120fps and 24fps/3:1. Same holds true for MX.

From a business perspective did they not get as many Pre-Orders as intended?

Still trying to figure out why they'd do this bump from 4K to 4.5k....

Interchangeable Mount has been part of Red's DNA since the Red One

Very strange as to why they'd stop offering it with Raven

I think people really want the options to pick whatever mount they want.

All you gotta say is interchangeable mount and I'm contacting Heather to pursue with my Raven Deposit.
