I've read so many comments both on Reduser and especially No Film School about the recent "test shots" looking bad or noisy or whatever so
I put together some material from my Weapon 6K with all the settings put to exactly match what the Raven can do.

Compression 3:1
4K 24fps
ISO800
Standard OLPF
50mm Canon CN-E

Because the sensor in the Weapon 6K is the same as in Raven you will have no problem getting these colors, sharpness and noiselevels.
I've also attached some R3D snaps if you want to check the 4K files. I hope this put an end to the "noisy and bad looking colors" discussion.
This was just a quick dirty test handheld with a 50mm at 4K there's a lot of movement, but that shouldn't affect being able to see the colors or noise.

And of course, you can use the HDRx as well to get this kind of DR between a non-lit room and
direct sunlight highlights while pulling focus with your phone as I'm doing while shooting this image.

So, I'm not sure why people think this is worse than BM or bad in any way.
For that price you get the same resolution and capabilities that a show like Daredevil has... and people are not sure if it's good or not?

I think you have to take anything that's said with a grain of salt. Many people are trying to decide between cameras right now, and they're LOOKING for reasons to choose one over the other. For people that can't afford the more expensive cameras, it's like it's their main mission in life to proove that URSA Mini is as good or better than RED or Arri or whatever. So they go on the offensive and attack. People have unfortunately staked their reputations on the success of one camera or another, and as soon as that happens you end up with some illogical things being said.

Great 8th post Clayton. Welcome to RedUser.

Definetely, but when these people say things based on nothing more than speculation because they simply aren't qualified or having any real professional knowledge to even give an educated guess just shows that there are too many dreamers and far to few professionals. If people don't know how to do basic cinematography with high end cameras maybe they should go to film school first or work in a different field for a couple of years before making "reviews" on cameras they don't have any knowledge of.

The dark side of this is that many producers and people who seek knowledge about what camera to use for a project will stumble upon all these internet wannabies and come to the conclusion that Raven or any other camera that's being trash talked isn't going to work. So for me, it's business to show that my Weapon or Red cameras can deliver what people want to see. So far I've landed a few jobs by putting hard facts on the table and dismissed idiotic assumptions.

There's something going on with the webserver at the moment, so if the links doesn't work just check later :banghead:

I think it would help if Red posted some professionally shot footage for everyone to download and play around it. A number of those people would be silenced. The rest probably already had their minds made up before they even saw the footage. It's the one thing I've hated, when the fan-boys of one make or another go fanatically after the competition, blinding themselves to the reality that the other system may be just as good, and that it's the people using the system that might actually be bad. A good cinematographer/colorist will make any camera shine, a bad one will make any camera look terrible.

Server seems to be back up now

Fucking RAD initiative Christoffer. Glad to see a fellow Scandinavian out there too. Thanks for sharing. You're the man.

Thanks for doing this test! Should help quell some of the fears floating around the interwebs.

Ultimately, even if the Ursa Mini is as good as a RED for 1/2-1/3 the price, Blackmagic has done absolutely nothing to convince me that they want to support their customers. Radio silence on delays and quality control issues up the wazoo. I'll happily pay extra for a RED when they provide support and communication.

Which underlines the underestimated "you get what you pay for" -saying. :tongue_smilie:
