  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raven does not support LUTs - How to expose?

Another option would be replacing the 4.7" monitor by another one that supports LUT. Or even that new Atomos Flame series may be nice.
The Osee monitor can also utilize luts. There is a link to a group buy here on REDuser.

Question is: do I rather keep the shadows, or do I keep the highlights. What's important to the dir/customer and his story.

If you are the DoP it is your job to know what is important in the shot. Prioritizing highs or lows "just because" plays a roulette with skin tones and mid grays.

You determine the priority and expose and light accordingly, or if not in a position for both just expose accordingly and let the left and right fall where a camera can capture it. Otherwise there is a tendency for sour faces and head scratching in post and online posts with how the skin tones of this and that camera suck.

Flanders BoxIO or other similar tool for displaying or managing LUT values externally.

I hear that some commercial DPs use Flanders monitors precisely because you can get a good preview of the 'finished' product. Probably more important if you're shooting a TV spot than a feature.

Yes, agreed. The Flanders monitor is a solid approach. I took upon myself to interpret the help requested from the original poster. Exposure in camera is far from being a issue, but what Raven doesn't have for shooters coming from the DSLR community are pictures profiles. The Box IO strictly as a LUT manager seems a flexible and powerful tool. Just an augment suggestion for those cobbling together a solution.

If the suggestion missed the mark, my apologies. Just trying to get my post count up to Jeff Kilgore's. :) He's been slacking lately, I might have a shot.
