Raven delayed already?

The Red Store shows the brain is now delayed till March. The month that I just spent impatiently waiting has been nullified. Reset back to the original five month countdown.

I understand things take time, but with the R&D already completed with Weapon and the existing Dragon sensor, im very surprised that Raven is delayed so soon.

EDIT: As pointed out by Phil, this is likely due to the sensor upgrade to 4.5K.

EDIT 2: As Jordan discovered, we're now allowed to switch between the packages and brain-only option without losing our place in the queue. For those of us who opted to forgo the package savings to get the brain a month earlier can now choose the package if desired. Makes things a bit easier to stomach.

I wouldn't read anything into it just yet. It does indeed say "estimated", but do also note the system changed from 4K wide to 4.5K wide with no price increase, which perhaps changed how the pizza cutters are working.

Pretty much everything said February/March. But people sure got excited about February.

The brain was listed as shipping a month earlier (Feb), hence why I ordered it on its own. I'm now regretting that decision, however I hope OffHollywood offers something appealing this week to change that sentiment.

This is confusing to me, what would you do with just a brain? And if it's unclear when off Hollywood will produces a module that will work for you what does that have to do with red? IMO the only reason to buy only a brain and not take advantage of the package is if either A: you own a red already and want to try and use old accessories, or B you already have a weapon on order and plan to share accessories.. Either way you will need a way to power the brain.. Red has been pretty transparent on this issue.. Not really fair to say the camera is "delayed".. After all it's November @@

though the brain makes sense if you dont want a 120gb card, or a 7 inch monitor, or a different module(then the one that we had no idea what it was!)

and jarreds said there will be more bits announced that might make the brain and the pkgs more difficult to choose from...

Changing from brain to pkg doesn't change your spot in line. It looks like the 4.5K brain and the modules are all going to come out of the oven at the same time. Exciting.

I think this above all else, justifies the delay. I overlooked this as I have no use for the upgrade, as I shoot in 16:9. Regardless, thanks for putting this in perspective.

My concern was for those of us who picked the brain only so that we receive the camera a month early. My reference to OffHollywood was a way in which we can still feel good about our decision, as we may not be getting the camera earlier anymore, however we will have the ability to select newer options that may be more suitable to our shooting needs.

As for powering the brain, there are many options, including borrowing or renting options from local Red owners, or buying third party solutions.

lol, this is spot on. I just sold all my cameras (three BM cameras) and am now waiting. Clearly impatiently.

(didn't sell them based on a Feb delivery date, but rather have been renting in the meantime)

It would seem reasonable that the Weapon upgrades would need to be in a good place before Raven owners woul.d get satisfaction. Not to say that event couldn't happen in tandem. But the pecking order has to be acknowledged.

And I think 2016 may have significant announcements related to media.

Dude! This is a first generation camera and if you've been reading the posts from many of the seasoned experts here, THERE IS A LOT TO CONSIDER!
Rather than criticize, I'd applaud RED for taking a step back to perhaps take a second look at delivering the very best first generation Raven they can. Obviously, just the 4.5K improvement was really huge. I'm certainly in no hurry to trade in my $30K plus spent to get into my Scarlet Dragon upgrade rig these days. Patience is a virtue!

This makes it a lot more bearable for those of us who opted to forgo the package savings in order to get the brain a month earlier. In fact, with the third party options and additional Red options being announced over the next few weeks, this may all turn out for the better.
