  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raven at Apple, In stock

It totally looks like Raven is now an Apple Store exclusive. It isn't on RED.com anymore. This makes the AMD announcement so much more significant. FCPX is optimized for AMD/OpenCL.

It makes me wonder if FCPX will now play RED files without needing to download the plugin separately.

Also, they need to improve their relinking from transcoded prores files to r3d originals. But overall I'm pumped to see RED and Apple working together.

In his Facebook post with the link to the Raven on the Apple web site, Jarred said "Sometimes you need to Give to Get." - To me this is quite cryptic. I am wondering where this partnership is leading - who is giving what to get what?

They gave Apple the exclusive to Raven, and in return Apple fully supports the RED workflow pipeline.

probably something that has to do with their phone for sure!!! or to help them out with their Pro res issues.

Reuben We just got a bunch of them at Glazers Camera in Seattle, It looks like they are going with Apple and Specialty dealers. That kit is a hell of a deal though, We can't come close to match it -_-

Also, perhaps Apple is helping Red with manufacturing. Heaven knows Apple has a lot of experience in that area. This would explain how Raven suddenly went from mid 2018 availability to "in stock".

That would be dope! Now make the Hydrogen iOS:coolgleamA:

Apple has pretty much always supported their pipeline; all the way back to the RED One. The One was heavily used in Apple's own internal video projects back then.

Also!

Will Apple then support RED camera repairs? Raven only repairs maybe?

I think my options with failure at the moment is to send to the states from Australia and that isn't really ideal..

I think the end game here is red sensor (probably a new version of helium) that's 2k in iphones

Things keep getting more interesting around here. I didn't see that one coming.

Apple states on their website the camera ships with a year warranty but you must go through RED to activate and issue repairs. Like any third party products, essentially.

On another note, I'm curious to see where this RED Apple relationship brings us to in the coming months and years. This is only the beginning of a budding relationship, I feel.

What's fascinating about this is RED just announced a phone. One would think this might upset Apple. But perhaps there's a whole lot going on behind the scenes that we don't even know about. Got to hand it to Jim and Jarred on this one. Cameras are now at companies like B&H Photo, Apple, etc. They are working with the likes of AMD to push the boundaries of processing and they are opening up to 3rd parties. That's a huge leap from 2007 RED.

My guess is that the Hydrogen will be IOS and Apple got one look at it and did some tech license deal for the iPhone 8 to incorporate some of the new RED Hydrogen tech...

I sure hope this is the case because I hate everything android. Additionally nowhere on the RED site (that I can find) does it mention it will be android although thats what we were told when it was announced... Please Jarred and Jim make the Hydrogen IOS:)

There is literally no chance of apple putting iOS on non-Apple hardware. They went down that path once and it was part of what nearly killed the company.

If they did see the Hydrogen and wanted to put the tech in the iPhone 8, I think it would be almost impossible to do. I read an article recently that talked about how apple sells SO MANY friggin iPhones, that not only is manufacturing an issue, but actual world resources is a hinderence at that scale. Really puts just how many iPhones they sell into perspective.
