  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAVEN Allocation

As exciting it is to see Raven's going out, we're still not even past 9/25 on the pre-order list and we're almost mid-month....I hope we can get to at least 1/15/16 (when I ordered mine) but it isn't looking good.

Brent said in the may thread they might clear the first two days by the end of the month, maybe he was being on the cautious side, but I doubt they are even going to clear the September orders this month. He also gave a few rough timelines for various pre-order dates throughout that thread.

This is just insane, I can only imagine how many Raven orders they got. This camera is aiming at "the most lucrative RED camera in history".

I'm obviously just guessing, but I'll bet that the day 1 orders and the day 2 orders account for significant percent of the Raven pre-orders. I wouldn't be surprised if once through the first 48 hours or orders, they start flying through the days.

Sure hope so, I've been kicking myself since September, for taking the weekend to think about a pre-order. :frown5:

I posted in the queue thread, but I got my allocation email today. I'm so excited! I've wanted a RED camera since 2007!

Not going to happen. Peep this post by Brent. Sorry man.

I was thinking about it, and I saw that it was completely refundable so I went for it. I almost forgot to check on it that day. I was in bed reading reduser and I jumped out of bed cursing! Haha.

Raven brothers & sisters. Had to pull the trigger and switch to Scarlet-W. Still love everything you can get with the Raven, but wanted to buy into the Weapon upgrade path. Purchase date 3/22. So anybody who bought after that timestamp, you all just got one step closer to the best day of your life.

Not to bag on you or Brent, but that post is so vague that I don't know what you can infer from that post...

May be I'm reading it differently... nonetheless... can you safely tell me from that post that they will definitely allocate all of Day 2 orders?
Or, in a more positive light... can you safely say (from that post) that they will pass the Day 2 orders?

Also, keep in mind, just to add to the mix.... these are the same people that don't want to reveal how many units were sold because of competition.
So, why tell people??? "yes... we will allocate everyone that ordered in September and October."????

However, if they can't allocate everyone of September and October this month (which was dedicated to fulfilling Raven orders).... I really can't expect mine to come in anytime this year (and I ordered mine a week before NAB started).

Well, I was responding to someone asking about a January order. Since Brent said a November order would be sometime around June, a January order definitely won't make it in May. It doesn't really matter how many orders they have because we don't know how many they can make in a given period of time anyway. What does that secrecy matter? They can give a ballpark of allocation without giving away unit numbers.

As far as day 1/2 goes, I'm not even sure (and someone asked about it elsewhere) which day is day 1 and which is day 2. Is day 1 9/24 up to midnight and day 2 is 9/25? or is Day 1 the night of 9/24 through 9/25, and day 2 is 9/26? And no I can't say for certain that they'll get through day 2 because even Brent can't tell you. I would imagine that they got a huge amount of orders during that time period, so it makes sense that he can't say for sure. I don't think they can estimate it to that granularity.

There was one guy on our queue before me who got allocated three days ago. So just between our timestamps there were three days worth of cameras built. It took me a couple of hours to order mine because the website kept locking up. And as Jarred has said, a "shit ton" of Ravens were ordered.

Anyway I don't think his post was that vague. As he said, you can infer somewhat of a timetable given those numbers and others he's put through. The first couple of days will be May, and it sounds like they'll get through to mid-November in June. If you're just after that it's probably August. If you ordered when the site changed to "shipping Fall 2016" it's fall (where I live I don't even really have seasons, so I have no idea when that really is). I believe that's when the "just before NAB" orders are supposed to ship, but you'd have to look that up. And depending upon what happens, it might take longer still. A lot can change from now to then.

How accurate do you want it to be? It's not like they can say "you'll get your camera June 12th, 17:04:03:12 ." (Had to throw frames in there ) I mean they can't even tell you exactly how long it'll be once you're allocated. It's a pretty manual process and they have to rely on other supplies to come in. If something goes into a shortage (flash memory for the mini-mags or something) that'll affect package orders and throw things off.

tldr;
He's thrown out enough estimates that you should be able to get a ballpark idea of when you'll get your camera. If you've just ordered recently there are a TON of people ahead of you, so it's decidedly more difficult to estimate.

I ordered in March, and the dialog in this thread is making me skeptical I'll ever see this thing show up. Haha. It's a bummer, but what can you do...

Congrats Fabio! You're two hours ahead of me on the list! Very excited for you (and for me too)!!

Ah, thanks for the link to Brent's post. That's all I wanted to know really as I had asked him before about my mid-Jan order date and he didn't give me any info. At least now I know NOT to expect my camera anytime this month (or next month even), but I'm hoping to get it before Aug. for a big shoot lined up (I have other 4K cams which I can use but I'd rather use the Raven!).

I'm going to cross my fingers and hope that I will get mine allocated in December before Christmas :)

Received mine today, works like a charm and the build is phenomenal. Thanks to Jarred and everyone else at Red for putting out such an awesome product. Will be shooting a test within the next day or so and will have footage to show. Side note: My bomb squad reps killed it, were always helpful and willing to go the extra mile for an answer. Nick Watkins and Kevin Solomon. Thanks again.
