  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Raptor-VV - speedramp?

There are quite a few menu items that are on the DSMC2 cameras that ether are yet to be brought online in the Raptor or may not have enough users to justify the work to add to the Raptor.
The slower shutter speeds and things along that nature may be taking a while to get in to updates.

I believe we'll see a bunch of additional (aka missing) features being added with the upcoming firmware, although I think speed ramp is too niche to slip in there. And while it's not exactly the same, it can be done in post as well for some scenarios.

You are probably right that's niche, but the effect of doing in camera speed ramp is a treat.
Decrease of exposure is easily delt in post. I don't even know if we could also trigger an iris motor to synch with the exposure decrease?
But Shutter speed strobe (going from 100fps to 25) or fuild motion artefact (doing a post slowmotion fluidmotion) is not great when doing a 4x speed bump.

Wait, you could speed the ramp in camera on DSMC2!? Had a Gemini for 3 years and never even heard about that. Do you have any example footage?

Patrick, I fully agree that there are wonderful things one can do with speed ramps, I just wanted to express that I don't have much hope that we'll get that soon. And there are several other sorely missed settings on my Xmas wish list that I would use much more often (we already have them listed all over the forum, so I won't waste any more electrons repeating them here).

I for one really used Frame Averaging a lot... more than even the time laps feature... Made the movement so smooth vs the time-lapse/ inervolamitor just grabbed each frame which is what its suppose to do but with the frame averaging you could get a lot of amazing effects and uses.

Fusion has a Frame Average [AVG] node, if that helps. It can average an even higher number of frames there and you can choose the direction forward, backward, or both (relevant for time lapse, for cars at night etc.). You can also cascade them to create smooth avg ramps.

@ Alex, Yeah I totally get doing it in post but it was so nice to be able to adjust on location and see results right then and not have to have that email battle and long phone conversations to post on what you were hoping for on a particular shot...Or get that post person who gives you the we don't have time for effects like this... sorry we just don't have the time or staff....DSMC2 Frame Averaging... slate offload and send it in and they already know what you wanted... and less work for them in post...

Thanks for the tip I will be playing around with this a bit to see what can be done... but really miss some of the functionality of the DSMC2 frame adjustments... speed, averaging, summing, slow shutter etc....

Russ, of course I too see and value the advantages when you can bake such effects into the footage in the first place, just wanted to point this out as a better-than-nothing option. And having extended flexibilty in post for these effects doesn't mean it couldn't be combined, which saves some CPU time then.

Send finished fx frames to the edit room is also very important for me. Editors are not always keen to play with the material we deliver
