Greetings,
I am planning on producing/shooting 3 indie features in 2022. These are my own personal indie features. I do not want to rent camera gear but would rather own. I had been going over multiple camera options over the last 4 or 5 months. I am coming from the Sony FS7 so this is a large upgrade for me. I had finally narrowed down to the Red Gemini. I like the footage I've seen with it and it handles poor lighting better than other cameras due to the dual ISO though I do hope to light as needed and not rely on the camera to improve poor cinematography. My films will all be horror/slasher and will require more night shoots than day. My deliverables are UHD HDR. It was after I made up my mind about the Gemini that I learned of the Raptor. Now, I don't need 8k really but likely will have some VFX plates to shoot which could benefit the vfx artists. I'll be renting glass as needed so I'm not currently locked into a mount or s35 vs FF.
For those experienced with RED cameras is going with older tech such as DSCM2 vs going with the newest a better idea due to the kinks having been worked out or will the latest improvements be worth having? The price difference between the two is not large enough to be a factor. We plan on using a lot of handheld with and without a gimbal.
