Hi! I'm sure this has been covered but I can't find a similar thread and could use some guidance on my gamma options.

When shooting with my Raptor, I typically use IPP2 RedWideGamutRGB and Log3G10. These results are good, however, in Resolve the Output Tone Map and Highlight Roll off are greyed out. I have to use BT1886 gamma to have these two tools accessible.

Is there a downside to BT vs Log310, or should my workflow in Resolve be different? I've researched as much as I can but hoped to hear some real deal experience with this from the forum.

Thank you very much for reading, any thoughts would be beyond appreciated! Brendan

You want to leave your color space and gamma to redwidegamut log3g10, this ensures that you are grading the log footage. If you switch the gamma to bt1886, you also need to switch the color space to rec 709, as bt1886 is the typical gamma curve for the rec709 color space. However, you should not do this in the RAW tab of resolve because all of your grading will be done on this rec 709 footage which will limit your grading ability. So the best practice would be to leave your setting to redwidegamut, log3g10, and on your last node, apply the red ipp2 rec 709 conversion luts with the contrast and roll-off that you desire. Then do all of your grading on nodes before that final one. These luts can be made in redcine X or you can download them from Red's website. Alternatively, you can use resolves color management and you will be able to choose your contrast and roll-off setting in a dropdown menu in the project settings. I don't like automatic color management, but that's a personal preference. Once done correctly, there will be no difference between using the RED lut and setting the color management to the same contrast and roll off in the lut.
