Hello. Newbie here so please be patient. I have an Xserve with only two gigs of ram on it that I want to use to Debayer Red footage with. I can max out the ram on that system to 32 gigs. I have two questions. 1) Will Red Rushes "use" all 32 gigs of that ram? Sometimes software has to be written to use all the ram. Would we be wasting our money to up the ram to 32 gigs? 2) Will adding more ram speed up the debayering process? I have done a few tests and debayering 3 clips at a time using 7 cores per clip seems to max out the machine (I have to keep one of the cores so the Xserve will be able to function as a server) Thanks

Mark

Both REDrushes and Clipfinder (my favorite) can use all cores to the max. Plan about 2 GB per core, beyond that you won't see much improvement. But you'll need fast storage (RAID) as well.

Thanks. So If I have 8 cores, 16 gig is about the Max I can take advantage of?

O yea, we do have an Xserve raid hooked up copper fibre and the other computers I have hook up to it gig e. Is there a way with red rushes to gang all of these macs together in a render cluster like with compressor? Presently, I copy all the footage to the raid and have our three macs run red rushes and manually set each mac up to debayer 1/3 of the footage. Thanks

Use Clipfinder, it has a function called PMDR and it works very well.
