Using the raid card described in the link (ps! shouldn't this be able to connect to the redmag?)

I'm able to use 1/4 to 1/8 playback resolution, but there is always this 0.5-1 second delay when starting playback.
This is actually quite annoying when editing, so is there any suggestions?

I'm open to everything. Even changing to completely different storage system. The RAID can always be used for backup anyway. I'm trying to keep this a bit cheap though. I'm sure SSD RAID is good, but probably also way too expensive.

Hi Emil,

Have you changed your paused resolution to match your playback settings too?

If your paused resolution is set to full, it means that every time your PC starts to play, it's switching the way it debayers footage.

Maybe no need to use the "black" if you're on budget, but certainly not use the "green" version. If you stay with WD, you can go with the blue pill hehe...

Normal hard drives pack a lot of data, and have a lot of errors.

They use ECC to correct these errors.

At some point, they may go to heroic lengths to try to correct the data for a sector, taking several seconds.

This is not a good thing for a RAID setup.

An RE4 drive is specifically designed for RAID. It does NOT go to heroic lengths, but maps out problem sectors quickly.

There's also a lot of speed differences with RAID cards and how the RAID is formatted.

You might do some research.

But, you definitely don't want to use 'green' drives for anything where a delay might bother you. They are designed for low power, not speed.
