  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RAID Controller Advice

Can any of these cards serve both as an I/O for an external RAID with it's own controller and at the same time handle an internal RAID-6 with 7 drives?

What do you do the internal mini-SAS on something like the High Point 4321?

Hey Rob,

I'm not too familiar with the Highpoint 4321. But the Areca ARC-1680LP RAID controller also has one internal and one external minisas connector, which can support up to 4 internal "local" drives in RAID 0, 1, 3, 5 or JBOD in your system. At the same time, the external port can support a small external 4 drive RAID array or you can expand/add more storage as needed, up to 122 drives with a SAS expander solution, like the CineRAID 12bay Tower EditPro Xpander.

Using a Highpoint RocketRaid 4322 on a 2009 MacPro. Trying to boot a Vista bootcamp partition off an internal drive, freezes right at boot up with the card installed. Works fine when I pull the card. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

So everything fine now here with internal raid and external fibrenetix raid via a ATTO R380. Only thing i hear now is, that since i installed the driver from the ATTO card the front fan of the macpro is running all the time.... anybody noticed that also ?

HP-1840 LTO is also running over the second port.... :)

thx
rainer
